And part of that crappy play is their head not being in the game. When you hit the field/court your sole focus should be the game, not what political statement you are going to make. Keep that crap for outside the game. Your statement may well be true, but there is no evidence that this was the cause of this team not putting balls into nets. Many goals were called back for offside (two or three per game! That is a season's worth in this tournament alone), but all of the plays (and replays) I saw No Goal was the correct call ... some were close. That's one of those things in soccer where you're not sure about being happy or mad until after the games are done. It may indicate that the team is undisciplined and not attending to the details - ie focus is off as you imply. But it may also mean that they are being aggressive and pressing the action, which they needed to do in this tournament to get their normally potent offense into gear. Perhaps, they were simply a bit unlucky, too. Show me a striker who is never offside and I'll bet we're not looking at a star. Even more important is most offside calls are meaningless, but in this case the player in question successfully finished the play at the end. If there were no focus I would expect to see some additional evidence such as a million badly-missed shots or open nets left open with the crossbar or the post as the only defense. Neither of these seemed to happen. There were too many defensive and midfield give-aways and silly fouls, so that may argue in your favor. All good points, but let's also give the Canadian Women credit for playing a tough pressing defense from the opening minute of this match!! The US Women didn't pass as well as we normally see them and they slipped up a bit defensively at times; yet the margin of victory was a mere 1 goal and this was a close game! Part of the reason so many US passes were errant was the pressing, physical Canadian defense, but the other Canadian players marked the US Players very well, making passes extremely difficult at times!! Politics, purple hair and the dangerous Wokeness Syndrome weren't the cause of this loss for the US Women; but they provide people with a convenient red herring and a way to stamp these amazing women as distracted woke women? The Canadian Women definitely earned this hard-fought victory, but luck be a Canadian lady when that mean goal post gets involved!! Not to mention that Rose Lavelle, one of our most talented players who isn't known for her wokeness; gets whistled for a close foul around the 75th minute and Canadia scores!! Maybe the problem was that Rose wasn't woke enough.................? They didn't get the coveted gold, but I'm proud of these amazing, talented women and all they've accomplished!!

Rose, (not Lavelle) had no play, but recognized that the defender didn't know she was there. Leapt into the play on an obvious clear. Robinson had no intent to foul, but clearly did kick the player ... where the ball "should have been"... and just inside the box

Men's track and field running events has been a disappointment for the USA. In some cases, favorites failed to medal at all. The field events are doing pretty well for USA. The women are holding up their end of things, though, both in the running and field events.

That's right. I had it wrong, too. Group apologies to Davidson, who might prefer we forgot her name in this particular context. BTW- With this backup keeper, there is no way the gold was possible. Kudos to her for valiant effort, but that is a huge step down from the supposed "weak link" Naeher, who was very good and they'd have had no metal at all without her heroics in the quarters.

Yes they certainly missed Naeher, but they also made too many errant passes in their own end and really put too much on the new goalie's plate?? Davidson and others were less than stellar when it really counted, but a Bronze Medal isn't chopped liver!! 2 teams were better during the Olympics and better than nothing! They almost let Australia back in today, but squeaked through for the bronze!!

I stayed up to watch the US vs Aust game, even though I knew the outcome. Stewie has been extremely unselfish this whole tournament, but this game she was just incredible. Spectacular at every phase of the game. USA was so far ahead that even Pheesa got to play in the 4th q. I'm a little concerned about DT. She had two fouls early, which took her out of the game but she really doesn't seem to be playing up to her amazing standards. I watched her in the game against France, and I had the same feeling. I hope she's just deferring to the younger ones.
P.S. Not impressed with Skyler Diggins-Smith. Just don't get why she's off the bench ahead of say, Pheesa. (Not much of a homer, am I?)

Lousy coach....right? I didn't see it as we don't have a TV. Sigh.

RE DT - She is aging, and has some injuries recently. Aging bodies don't rebound as quickly. I suspect this is what is going on with her.
In other news, Japan is taking France to the shed. They are up 15 points with 3:33 to play in the third quarter. I just turned it on, so I can't say how Gabby is doing, but she is in the game.

DT is a prolific scorer, but it always seems like she enjoys a great assist over a score. That pass to Stewie was a thing of beauty.

France didn't have enough to overcome a really confident Japan team. Japan and US will meet for the Gold. France and Serbia will play for the Bronze.
