She is better than I thought. And I thought she was amazing. Check out the 3x3 U18 game against Poland.
She can do it all. Hit 3's, make great passes, rebound, and use her size and quickness to get to the basket.
I thought this deserved it's own thread.

Hit 3's, make great passes, rebound, and use her size and quickness to get to the basket. I thought this deserved it's own thread. Agreed on all counts. I am upping my high expectations. In the MCD and Jordan games, It seemed she played almost exclusively as a perimeter player. Avoided contact. Launched a lot of threes and not much else. Think KLS's frosh season. But this tournament shows how effective she can be literally everywhere on the court. Sara is playing mostly 6'2" PG for this team, for as much as there are "positions". Nobody there can guard her. Jaw-dropping passes, decisive, strong, solid defense, too. Boxes out and is not boxed out. Posts up early. Aware of the clock, the matchups, the movement on the court. Didn't seem winded despite playing the whole game. Took immediate ownership after a bad pass (which was virtually her only mistake). This team is very unselfish all around, mixing layups and deep shots. Getting an open look most of the time. They switch on most picks, and don't lose the cutter. Challenge every shot. Should mention that Jazzy Davidson can get a shot off on anyone and is a constant hustle player. But they are playing with no sub, as Roberson went down with an apparent non-contact knee ... sending her thoughts and prayers.

And her conditioning has really gone through the roof. She has great court vision. As I said in another thread, she's a Maya, but bigger and stronger, or will be. This is simply amazing. The announcer is blown away by her! And the others are great too. "If I hype somebody up, you better believe the hype is real." She goes after it on defense too. Wow!!! No look pass behind the head. Geno is wincing at that one.

Great stuff! linkster linked (that's what linksters do!) the earlier games here: uconnterritory.freeforums.net/thread/17686/sarah-selected-2x3When Sarah revealed for UConn my first thought was that we're going to see a transcendent player for the next several years. A rare player who makes it all look natural and effortless. The last basket--how she quickly shifted the ball from the right to the left hand and drove left. Stuff like that just comes so naturally to her. http://instagram.com/p/C_QqfYkNMVr

I liked how she drove for the winning basket and scored through double contact.
She plays aggressively, has sound fundamentals and rattler-quick hands. Geno is going to love her and maybe she will be his new "princess". That nickname goes back to Sales who according to her team mates never got yelled at.

I stick with my pre season assessment that both Sarah and Jana will be in the starting lineup .

It would have been at least a more interesting question were Caroline and Aubrey ready to play at the beginning of the season. Of course, Caroline may be ready...who knows? Still, my money is on Morgan to surprise (is it really a surprise?) on the upside. Not to start ahead of Sarah, but to get some minutes for herself at the 3/4.

I believe that someday we UCONN fans will talk about Sarah the same way we talk about DT, Maya, Stewie, Paige and other UCONN greats. She has that much potential!

Jamelle is there. They've shown her in the crowd several times. Sara is in the running for "MVP", which seems will really mean who scores most. Leader is from NZ, but they didn't make the Quarters. Poland has a contender too, who lost 21-10 to Germany in a QF game. US and Germany have been very strong. Germany takes the Group of Death, going to the wire but beating both France and Spain. Can't find an update on Arianna Roberson's status after what looked like a knee injury. She was carried from the court (Dad, maybe??) and hasn't played since. She is a 6'4" Duke incoming frosh. Key schedule for games today (times are pretty loose, so plan accordingly): 11:05 USA v Spain in Quarter finals US wins 18-12 1:20 Semi-final USA v China 3:10 3rd place game 4:10 Final This YouTube site seems to have all of the live-streams: FIBA 3x3

They showed up together at UConn, and Arianna posted a sad face after Sarah declared for UConn. Arianna was hoping they'd be a 1-2 punch for Duke. I was hoping that for UConn. But most of all, I hope "Ari's" going to be okay...(she and Toby Fournier will be formidable together).

I just finished watching the semi against China.
The announcer was full of praise for the USA team in general but especially Sarah.
I was impressed with almost all aspects of her game, but it's worth pointing out her precision passing.
Yes, her ability to drive through traffic, take down rebounds and score will be marveled at by everyone but her passes were quite impressive.

Geezy @$%, in the 1st minute she makes 2 3's (2's), 2 steals and a block.

Worth noting that she was nursing a minor injury earlier in the summer. She's at full strength now.

sorry but given the injury history over the past few seasons, I wish she wouldn’t play in these tournaments. I know, I know

I believed during the recruiting process she was THE ONE to get critical for long-term success. I’ve also believed from what I saw of her highlight H/S games and what I saw in the All-American games that she would be super. I’ve predicted at least Honorable Mention All-American this year and have limited reason to be believe it to be so. But I do have caution that I didn’t have 1 month prior.
It was a post someone mentioned from DoggyD that he posted a while back in which there was a quote from Geno that Jana during last year was the best freshman he ever had. I rewatched a little more of Jana, so then I changed my mind and believe Jana and Srah starting at the C/PF spots too. As long as Geno wasn’t extremely over-hyping Jana and she is at least “real good,” the only drawback from her and Sarah not starting would be his concern for starting two freshmen Bigs. With that said, I believe it possible that Jana/Sarah take away stats from each other which may affect the voting numbers. Ohhh The horror of having two Great Bigs! The Horror!!! I am already giddy about Sarah and I am soooo looking forward to seeing Jana in some games.
I am so excited about the potential for this team.

I know the main point is the game but this is yet another example where I think they ought to revise the rules. The concept is you have four players with only three available to play at any time, but I've seen many other examples were player is too injured to play which means the remaining three have to play full-time. Why not consider a five person roster?
