In an amazing contest, South Korean female archers just beat China in a shootout for the gold medal. What has this to do with basketball? Because American women are going for an incredible 9 straight golds. But the Korean women have just won their TENTH straight golds.
I don't think I've ever watched competitive archery before and I have to say I'm in awe. As someone who shoots heavy film cameras, often without a tripod, I know how difficult it is to maintain stillness (breathing, heart rate, etc). But they are shooting at a target 70 meters away with a wind, and the arrow has to rise to nearly 13 feet to descend to the target. wow. what impressive skills.

Is it true that Reeve walked out? What? Wow! She was scheduled to rotate off at the end of the Olympics anyway. If she's left now, I suppose Kara will take over. But she's probably dead to basketball now. She was already despised by fans for her words on Clark.

I think there was a US male archer who practiced by standing near the street in front of his parents' home and shoot though the open garage door and out a back door to a target at the back end of their yard. S. Korea must have an excellent sports development program. They have also sent a string of young world class golfers to the US tour.

China held that for around a decade including the extraordinary Yuja Wang and Lang Lang, but in the last 5 years or so, it's clearly South Korea. A fair number of them, including perhaps the greatest young pianist in the world, Yunchan Lim.

An on the line arrow made all the difference. I wonder what Robin Hood could have accomplished with these bows!

My wife's nephew shot with team USA for several years never making the Olympics. I think the US only chooses 2 Olympic archers. He continued as an instructor at the Olympic village after that.

Good for Dee
Diana Taurasi addresses ageism at Paris Olympics: 'I'm here to win a gold medal and that's it.'
CT Insider, probably has a paywall. So glad she called this out!
So she's disagreeing with her coach (there's a stunner). Pretty sure I saw Geno say she could compete into her 60's. (I know, I know he was trying to make a point not making a serious prediction)

50 - 39 at the half. USA on top. I'm loving the play by play on ESPN. Hope someone films it.

BUT Japan has 17 RBs and we have 31. That's such a difference maker.

BUT Japan has 17 RBs and we have 31. That's such a difference maker. It's Stewie and A'ja who are essentially playing Japan by themselves. 35 pts and 16 ribbies.

Cheryl Reeve. It was on USA network, for those who have Hulu or almost any Cable package. Too late for this game, but you can get lots of coverage live-streamed by having them confirm that you can log into your TV provider (ESPN and FOX use the same method). I streamed some of the second half while working. Go to NBCOlympics.com/schedule.

I don't have cable 79-57 end of third. They give you 10 mins or so for free if you stream ... but it is likely a one-time-thing.

If you click on the arrow on the right, there are lots of cool pictures behind it, including a couple of great ones from opening ceremonies. Stewie's having a moment. http://instagram.com/p/C97wEDsJjyk
