Your 3 point percentage in HS may be a substantially different cat than your percentage in DI basketball. Geno didn't bring her here to hang out in logo land, though 3s to drag the other team's big out are a time tested strategy. I agree about the difference between HS and college but I wasn't talking about logo 3's. My imagination is her playing a high post where her reported passing skills would blend with her powerful drives to the hoop and her step back 3's and turn her into a 3-headed Husky. I just love that puppy picture!

Man is it tempting to wish the next 5 months of my life away. That is, assuming that time will be in the bank. As the saying goes, "If you want to make the Gods laugh tell them what your plans are for tomorrow."

The fact is that she looks like a 6'2 guard to me. I'm sure she has inside skills , but I'll wait to see how she assimillates into the Uconn system. There are alot of question marks. I'm interested in how her physical conditioning is right from the start. Other than Paige playing the point, I have an open mind regarding everyone else. That's why Geno gets paid the big bucks ! Well you better start getting used to having your mind opened up. Geno has a PG (Arnold) and specifically went out and found another (Chen). He didn't do that because he plans on Bueckers playing primarily at the point. She'll run the offense occasionally, like she did this last year. Maybe a little more, but not primarily. And again like last year with Muhl, I'm not saying what I would do, or what I think is the best idea (use of players), I'm just telling you what Geno is gonna do.

Geno has plenty of players to cover the 2/3 - Bueckers, Fudd, Shade, Ziebell, Ducharme, Cheli, Samuels And Fudd/Ducharme are upper classmen. They will both be in their 4th year.

Dan Connolly UConn WBB Weekly (edited a bit). Nothing really new here.
Even though the entire process took longer than usual, Geno Auriemma never wavered. He knew UConn had put itself in the driver’s seat to land Strong.
“We remember being at Sarah’s games when there were exactly three coaches in the gym: Me, Jamelle (Elliott) and Morgan Valley. We remember the days when USA Basketball said, ‘Yes, she's on our list of ‘others to consider,’’ he explained. “We felt like we were there at the beginning, we stayed with her through the whole time and had a great relationship with Sarah; Danny, her dad; and Allison, her mom. We always felt pretty good about it.”
Yet for as much time as UConn spent recruiting Strong, it didn’t take long for her to open some eyes once she stepped on campus for the start of summer workouts.
“Sarah’s been great. She surprised some people. We thought she was good and she's maybe even better than that,” Auriemma said.
When Strong officially signed her letter of intent and allowed Auriemma to comment on her for the first time, he described her as a “throwback”, do-it-all player.
In order to find the right comparison for Strong, the coach had to go way back to the days before the Huskies reached their first Final Four. He likened her to the program’s first real superstar: Kerry Bascom.
“She reminds me a lot of a kid that almost nobody say play, this kid Kerry Bascom,” Auriemma said. “This kid was 6-1 from a small town in New Hampshire. She was Big East Player of the Year three years in a row. She was our best ball handler, she was our best passer, she was one of our phenomenal shooters and she was clutch… Nobody, I think, could ever say ‘She played this position’ because she didn't have one. Those are type of kids that I think today are exceptionally successful.” ....

I have never had less of a handle on what the Huskies will look like coming into a season. So many options and hanging medical clearances. But I have stopped worrying. I just put me Geno bobblehead doll under my pillow every night.

Maybe the only thing many of us can be reasonably confident of for the 1st game is that Paige will be at the 3. Otherwise, virtually everything is up for grabs during the early part of the season.

Sometimes I think I'm at a mad hatter's tea party where up is down and Tuesday comes after Thursday. You think Bueckers adds more as a wing, playing off the ball, than with the ball in her hands, making the offensive decisions? I'd love to hear why. UConn has had Bueckers playing off the ball for 3 years and has zero titles, despite her clutch shooting. There are no holes in the lineup this season, no lack of scorers, so how about starting her at her best position, where her array of amazing skills, her prescient vision and her decision-making are most fully utilized, where she makes everyone else better? Or is it that Arnold would be insulted if she didn't start at pg?

No. Fudd and Cheli are not here to play PG. Sure lots of players can play lots of different positions if needed, i.e. injuries (like Bueckers at the 4). But that's not why they were brought here. BUT Chen was brought in to play the point. Geno doesn't want Bueckers playing the point specifically. She's too good a scorer. Sure Geno likes players who can play lots of different positions. He can mix and match people. As an example, some years Geno has a specific person he like to bring off the bench first. But he doesn't necessarily limit himself to what position he subs off. Players just rotate around. So while Chen may end up (some possessions) playing the 2 or 3, her main position is going to be the point. Look at it this way, Chen is basically Muhl's replacement. (offensively at least)

But to cut to the quick: Carla pointed Chen to UConn and Geno offered. Do we think that's so she can compete for 2nd on the depth charts at her position or to be some generic injury insurance?

Competition? Yes, he promised her that. And that means she could end up 2nd on the depth charts. Do you think he promised her a starting pg job? All she was offered was a chance to compete and Geno wouldn't have brought her in if she wanted something else. I'm sure he likes her pg skills but it's her versatility, her consistency and her competitiveness that got her the offer IMO. Senechal was brought in as "generic insurance" and that's the role she filled as a wing playing the 2.

He already had/has a PG who started for most of the year last year. Paige can play anywhere. Barring disaster, Paige will open at the three. If the opposition presses and/or KK/KC need help, Paige will be there. I even agree with most of your arguments, but it just ain't happening.

UCONN is going to start two point guards either Chen or KK for one and Paige for the other. This will enhance ball movement along with players able to take the defneder off the dribble (which Sarah can do also as a "4" if bigger players try to guard her and treat them like "a Mouse in the House" for smaller players.). And Sarah as expected to be an elite passer, the Offense is potentially a super-explosive YellowStone quake.

Bwahahaha You folks are hilarious!!! Who cares what "position" Paige "plays?". She'll be on the floor leading the charge for number 12, and that's all we know. Hopefully, at some point next season Azzi will be out there, too, and Caroline and Aubrey, and I don't care what " position" they're in, so long as it's in position to win! If Chen and Strong earn starter minutes, good for us!
I'm drooling over next season, but enjoying the ANTICIPATION!

All of them would be efficient 3 level scorers and all would possess all the skills needed to do what pg's traditionally do. And yet here I am. Chen and Arnold are competing with each other if they are limited to being pg's. And in a way they are competing with Cheli & Strong who, if they play well enough, could force Geno to play only 2 guards, and with everyone healthy they will be Bueckers and Fudd. Of course that's one scenario and like most everyone I'm throwing darts blindfolded.

As good a scorer as she is/could be if she hunted her shot more, I'm thinking she's more DT than Sue. I mean if this was Iowa, yeah, the balls in her hands all the time. But UCONN's offense doesn't run that way.
