Oh man, that is a very painful foul. And may have determined the game.

Did Aaliyah foul? No. But it's possible to call that a foul, so they did. Refs shouldn't decide games on that sort of thing. Only on a clear shooting foul.

The last game for Nika and Aaliyah. Incredible that they got to the Final Four this year.

Well, we beat the spread. :-)
Gentlepeople, this year has been an absolute honor to be with you all during games. We achieved so very much and, without these nutsy refs, might have achieved a lot more.
What a team! UConn forever....

Such heart this team showed all year long. They fought until the absolute bitter end. Love them. What a tough way for Aaliyah to finish her career.

Hate to say it, but only player that performed really well tonight was Nika.

Hate when refs determine the outcome of the game. That being said, maybe just clear out and let Paige go and win it for you..

And with that bad call, IOWA wins the game.
it's hard to play 5 on 8.

When Azzi, Caroline, Aubrey, Ayanna went down for the season--who would ever have thought we'd make it to the semifinal game?
Heart, talent, grit, focus.
Aren't we lucky to be UConn fans?

If we had to lose to any team, I am glad it was to Iowa. And I will be cheering for them against South Carolina and hoping Caitlin goes off for 50.

I suspect SC is gonna smoke IOWA. They are too deep and too talented, and they saw how to defend CC tonight. She only got 20 thanks to NIKA, the Croation Sensation.

I'll always remember that illegal screen on Edwards. She's gotten screwed on that call for 4 years because the defender bounces off her to the court so this was like a final kick in the ass from the refs. Considering that Bueckers was going to be open for a 3 along with the missed marketability of that tells me that the ref that blew that whistle won't be refing any big games for a while.
But I am very proud of the Huskies.

Hate to say it, but only player that performed really well tonight was Nika. KK played great. Ice stepped up. And Aaliyah wasn't perfect, but played very well. Hell, they're a team. Live and die as one. What a great, great year!

Never complain about the refs because they are usually bad at both ends but that last call against Edwards was awful and ended the game.

Thank you to all the posters here. I've really enjoyed hanging out with you during games and in between. I'll be around for the men's games if anyone wants to post, but then just occasionally checking in on how everyone is doing.
It's been a real honor to hang with you all.
Special thanks to our admins, Chappy, Bulkey and Rady. You are greatly appreciated.
Who ever thought we'd be posting in April 2024 back in December 2023? It's been a wonderful wonderful ride.
Lastly, thanks to Doggy and his crew for their insightful writeups in the BLOG! I look forward to their post-mortem on tonight's game.

I am all cried out from this week at work. I have no tears left. But I don't feel like tears are really warranted. This undermanned team, with four first year players making up half of the available players, went farther than I thought they would. I believed they could do it, but I knew it would take a lot of breaks to go the Huskies way. It came down to the last possession, and unfortunately Aaliyah didn't stand still enough to get a score. Such a tough way for Nika and Aaliyah to end their seasons.
There is no reason for any player to hang their heads. I am sure they are devastated. But they did themselves proud, carried themselves with dignity and grace and should be so very proud of how far they came despite all the obstacles.
But...the future is very bright. And maybe tomorrow we will get some good news and Sarah Strong will commit and the future will be even brighter.

Maybe Clark is SCar's kryptonite. UConn had success against Clark because they play 4 guards. SCar's guards couldn't guard her last year and won't this year. I am also impressed with Iowa's other starters. Iowa did a good job denying Bueckers tonight and if they can keep PaoPao contained it will come down to Cardoso's layups vs Iowa's 3pt shooting.

Losing is bad enough, but when the refs, unnecessarily, inject themselves in the last few seconds to determine the outcome of the game, it really hurts. The team played a great game, they just ran out of gas. I'm hoping to recover somewhat at 11am tomorrow morning.

The twitter sphere is wildly critical of that call. Swin Cash, Christyn Williams, Renee Montgomery, etc.
Here's a couple from folks with no dog in the fight:
