I'll be the Debra Downer. I just don't think UCONN has the horses at this point. I think it'll be a decent game though. Bounce back from Providence game.

Everyone was really happy with how the team competed against Maryland. I am hoping for something similar out of this game.

I love your optimism, DD. I would like our chances a lot more if Caroline and Azzi were playing. Still, that is why they play the games...anything can happen. It will not amount to an upset either way - unless the losing team loses by a LOT of points.
I am choosing to stay positive and say it will be a close game.
I hope ticket holders got the message it is a "white out" game. I had to order a white UConn tee-shirt for the game. I have a lot of UConn shirts, but all of them are blue, being the dominant color.

Let say that the starting five plays 38-40 minutes each with no foul trouble and little fatigue. Are you saying this five players aren't talented enough? I'd argue that.

Everyone was really happy with how the team competed against Maryland. I am hoping for something similar out of this game. I guess you are referring to Fudd, but UConn also missed Juhasz and Muhl in that game. The media also seems to think that Fudd was the only player out in the two losses. I've watched parts of several SCar games and the way they played in the 1st period in the final bears no resemblance to what I have seen this season, against teams far less competitive than UConn. I think it was the 2014 season when UConn played SCar the pregame chatter was all about how SCar's front court depth would wear down UConn's short roster. With 8 min left in the 1st half UConn went on a run despite Staley rotating players in to try and wear down UConn. Staley called a TO and her vaunted front line were grabbing their shorts. They had Coates, White, who later transferred, another center I can't remember and I believe it was Wilson's freshman year. They were huge and deep and they lost convincingly. Now that has no bearing on this game, but don't be surprised if UConn is more energetic than expected.

SCar's 2 pg's are both coming off lost seasons, one for an ACL and the other for a "foot condition". SCar's depth doesn't extend to their back court. There are other guards but only Cooke has done anything and she hasn't had much luck against UConn. If Senechal can get a switch and be guarded by Cooke she'll shoot right over her.

I'd be fine with being wrong though.
5v5 for 5-10 minutes. Hmmmm, maybe even?? I think they may still need another outside shooter. Gimme Fudd for Griffin 5v5, for 5-10 minutes, we're probably talented enough then.

Did you listen to the Nika interview. It's mental fatigue, not physical. And for this game? They will get through that. I hope....lol.

Yea, a lot of it probably is mental fatigue. But that's even harder to overcome. But thinking about it more, even without any fatigue, I don't think those 5 can take S. Carolina. I think they need another outside shooter.
But like I said, I'd be glad to be wrong. (just you know, it hardly ever happens )

I hope....lol. +1 Kids that age, in superb condition, running off adrenaline in front of a sold-out crowd at the XL, can play all day physically. I also believe this will be far less of a mental strain than the past couple of games. Those games are "should win" games, and you just want them to be over. This is the marquee game of the season. It's what these kids spend their whole lives dreaming about. Foul situations will be the only possible reason any of them will need to sit. Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised by 5 40-minute players.

Maybe the best Pregame Report ever? That's something I know but what a great job. More worried about foul trouble than fatigue. Their rebounding advantage is real, we just have to keep it relatively close. Agree, we need to make 3's to offset that, gonna be hard to get transition baskets. At the Final Four, Dorka was hurt, Azzi was sick, Aubs was hurt. This time we have Dorka, Aubs and Lou. Now, on paper they can't replace the triplets watching from the bench, but this is better in total than we put on the floor against them the last time. Dorka and Aubs should close the rebounding gap. Aubs can't be guarded by a bigger players, she's too fast. Be nice if she could get their bigs in foul trouble. Hopefully, Lou is rested. I just want it to be close, I think we can win, but all we need is close. Cause when they look over at our bench, they know what's going to be waiting for them next time, when all the money is on the table. I want that seed of doubt planted firmly in their heads.

Aubrey wasn't even with the team. Besides Dorka out and Azzi ill, Liv had a muscle pull (abdomen, I think). That changed the entire game, with no back up big, and our starting big hurting.

Forget last year's games. Different teams. I like our chances, but they have to play better than they have since the Tennessee game.

Agreed that we could really use Caroline and Azzi, but we really just need the officials to do their jobs and follow the rule book reasonably; not allowing too much 'extra' BS. This is from the most recent edition of the rules and has been a point of emphasis for 6 years, but Lou gets manhandled regularly with very few whistles? I wish they would 'follow the rules'....... Contact On and By the Ball Handler/Dribbler
Illegal contact on the ball handler/dribbler is inhibiting the ability of teams to
start their offense. Six years ago, the rules committee and the coaches asked
that officials enforce the guideline that one “measure-up” touch is permitted
on the ball handler and any subsequent contact by the defender using either
the front or back of the same hand or using the other hand on the ball handler/
dribbler be ruled a foul. An armbar placed on the ball handler, along with
two hands simultaneously, are automatic fouls. When there is body contact
between the ball handler and defender, the official must determine whether
the contact is incidental (due to both players moving legally) or illegal. When
the defender's body contact, such as the defender's body bumping or leaning
their torso on the dribbler, affects the rhythm, speed, balance, or quickness of
the ball handler, or reroutes the ball handler from their desired path, a foul has
been committed by the defender. When the ball handler makes illegal contact
with the defender, a foul has been committed by the ball handler.
It is critical that officials consistently enforce these guidelines from the start
of the game until its conclusion, regardless of time and score, and from the
beginning of scrimmage/exhibition games until the last game of the season.www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/WBR23_20220901.pdf

doggy, Most of the time I agree with you, but not today. The injury bug kills UCONN in this game. If UCONN had all 12 players available that they were projected to have before the season started UCONN would be undefeated and the favorite in this game. As much as I want UCONN to win this game I don't see how its possible. The game may be close for a quarter, maybe more, but eventually SC's depth will wear UCONN down. I see SC winning this game by 10 or more points.

So, if they take our Huskies to the woodshed... motivation for revenge when the cavalry returns. If UCONN blows them out ... how much better with more aces in our hand later? If it's a close game, I think UCONN is better able to close the deal... and that's just going to build the hype for a possible rematch in the FF/NC.

What makes you think that? Basically don't have enough outside shooting. It's gonna be tough enough as it is to score inside. Without outside shooting, it'll only be worse. Probably need 10-12 3ptrs to win (maybe more). Don't think we got the players at this time to do it. If we had Fudd and CFD that would open up the floor. Fudd/Senechal/CFD could get 3 a piece (avg. maybe more). Then Muhl/Juhasz/Griffin only have to get probably 3 total between them. BUT, we don't have that right now. Hopefully we'll have it down the road.
We can defend them well enough, I think. But not sure we can score enough. I imagine we'll get out-rebounded, so they are gonna get extra shots. If we give up a bunch of turnovers, that will only be worse. (and we haven't done well with TOs this year....except when Fudd is playing, we're better) But again, we don't have Fudd now.
The players we got will play their guts out, but I just don't think it's enough right now.
