Beat the Blues!!! Destroy the Devils!!! It came from a nickname given to an elite French Alpine infantry unit during World War I. Called “les diables bleus” because they wore blue capes, the soldiers were popularized by a 1918 Irving Berlin song, “The Blue Devils of France.” The lyrics include the line “Strong and active, most attractive / Are the Blue Devils.” In October 1922, editors of the Trinity Chronicle selected the Blue Devil as the university's mascot after a newspaper poll failed to yield a majority vote among names like the Blue Titans, the Royal Blazes and the Dreadnaughts.

Wow, that got me looking at their roster. goduke.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster6 high school recruits and 11 portals! And maybe some of the high schoolers are non-scholarship walk-ons? Nearly every one of the 17 has time and points, though only 9 have played in all 5 games, suggesting that Kara played everyone in the early blowouts but has her core group. Anyway, Kennedy Brown plays around 23 minutes/game and scores 10 points and get 5 ribbies/game. goduke.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/

I can't imagine trying to build cohesion and manage minutes with 17 players.

I can't imagine trying to build cohesion and manage minutes with 17 players. At this point there are effectively 9 on the active squad and 8 on-lookers. That is definitely a recipe for trouble. OTOH, the AD might be happy: for the purposes of Title IX, 17 women on a basketball team begins to offset the 113 on the football team. Duke, like Stanford and Dartmouth, likes to have as many students as possible involved in athletics for school cohesion and alumni contributions.

I don't see why men's teams can have a full roster and not worry about cohesion, but we have to worry about women's teams and whether the coach and players are " comfortable ". If you are a BB player on any team , it should come down to hard work . As for the coach , that's their job to make the pieces fit.

We don't know the upper end, but the minimum is two great catch. Duke does give out academic merit scholarships, so I wouldn't be completely surprised if there's some fudging going on here as well.

I can't imagine trying to build cohesion and manage minutes with 17 players. Uconn men have 16 On roster and doesn't seem to be a problem. The problem seems to be in the eyes of some wbb fans. Just nonsemse !

Going to miss the game, peeps. At Hartford Hospital ED with hubby. Trip to walk-in and here we are. Ticker isn’t ticking right. Again. I will try to watch via the game cast and monitoring the board. But , you know, priorities.

Looks like Aaliyah is still wearing her face mask. They're showing UConn practicing during the sports center.
