That's right, UConn, not USA...  Ok, the whole team aren't all Huskies, but the most important parts are..!! For example, who leads the team in assists? Sue Bird with 32 assists versus only 5 turnovers. I'm not good in math, but that translates to an A/T ratio of 6.4..!! And Sue is almost 60 years old..!  By the way, 2nd in assists? Yeah, that would be Stewie with 23. All UConn.... (By the way, part 2, Sue Bird leads the US in steals as well with 7.) Leading the team in minutes = Stewie at 31.5 per game. Leading the whole tournament in minutes = Kia Nurse, with a per game average of 36.1 per, for Canada. (Dick Vitale voice) All UConn, baby... Leading the team in made three point % = Sue at 40%. 2nd place = Stewie at 36.4%. Not numbers to brag about but #1 and #2 on the team. All important stat of rebounds = Stewie with 46 is #1, ahead of Brittney Griner at 38. Ok, how about points? Points per game, Stewie is 2nd to some player from South Carolina at 15.2 ppg. (Wilson is at 16 ppg) If you prefer total points, Wilson is slightly ahead at 80 vs 76 over Stewie. But, Wilson has not tried a 3 pt shot. Not as versatile... How about a negative stat? Turnovers, the top 4 on the team are Jewell Loyd (17), Chelsea Gray (11), Brittney Griner (11) and A'ja Wilson (10). No UConn in that group... The Gold Medal game is Saturday at 10:30 pm EDT. God knows which channel as this is the worst Olympics for TV coverage since 1850... Go UConn & USA..!! |

I think the fact that we are roughly 13 hours behind Tokyo is part of the problem. That always makes Olympics broadcasting a challenge. The NBC/Universal family of networks provide nearly 24/7 Olympics coverage with live broadcasts occurring mostly when I am sleeping.
Looks to me like the Women's gold medal game will be at 10:30 PM on the NBC late night broadcast, with a replay at 9:00 AM on the USA network.
I refer to the NBC Olympics website to see what is on when and on which network.

Watching the Semi-final game. Observations: - Stewie is the greatest player on earth, and she's not even playing at her strongest position
- UCONN players pass like no others. People get used to battling for a little opening, because they know Sue, D, Stewie will reward their efforts
- Hey! just noticed for the first time that after all that jabber, Candice Parker isn't announcing. This seems like an obvious thing, since she has nothing good to say about the US team. Is she doing non-US games, or none at all?
- BG is a giantess. With that size, strength, and athleticism ... how is it that she is not unstoppable?
- When Sue or Stewie leave the floor there is a big dropoff in play. Their replacements are good players, but it just isn't the same

Regarding #3, Kara Lawson is doing the USA games, and Monica McNutt the others. They are both "on site". I wondered if Kara was always planned or if she was an available fill-in. Only once did the play-by-play mention Duke. I have no idea why BG isn't more dominating. When Sue et al get her the ball she generally puts it in. I don't think that is really the USA game-plan however. |

greetings. I am seeing my second game of these Olympics - the first was this afternoon when I watched the replay of the semi-finals against Serbia, the hands team.
Game schedule and my schedule has not allowed me to watch much of anything until...well today.
