Nickname: Hawkeyes Mascot: Herky the Hawk The name Hawkeyes come from James Fenimore Cooper’s The Last of the Mohicans (1826). There, Natty Bumppo was given the name Hawkeye by the Delaware Indians. Around the same time, Black Hawk was the chief of the Sauk during a war in the territory that eventually became the state of Iowa, and newspapers bestowed the territory with the nickname of Hawkeye. As an aside, the Black Hawk War gave Abraham Lincoln his only war experience. Herky was the name given to the mascot after WWII. He is described as an “impish hawk,” though the name is short for Hercules, the name chosen in a statewide vote. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herky_the_Hawk

The pressure of increased European immigration here, settlers invading the Delaware lands and greed soon forced the Delaware to relocate towards Ohio. Over and over again; the Delaware were forced westward and they're the tip of the iceberg of what happened to the various indigenous peoples here in North America!

I just noticed the kinesiotape on Christyn's left arm during the Syracuse game. I'll be curious to see if it's there again for Iowa. Another tattoo?

Yes, she has a tattoo on her inner forearm. She has always worn it, as I remember.

They act like PB is the second coming or something! I'll take Caitlin any day!
From someone on the Iowa message board.

Oh, man. I was really hoping Nika could play a few minutes anyway. Well, best that they not rush her back. Winning a basketball game is not as important as protecting the health and well being of a player. Play with what you got.

While I am not really concerned that UConn loses this game, the usual Sweet Sixteen butterflies are starting. Anything can happen in the madness that is the NCAA tournament. If the team comes out focused and executes, particularly on defense those butterflies will, hopefully, fly away by half time. Fingers crossed.

Almost missed swapping game notes with you folks. I lost my Internet connection at about 12:30 and knew I was up against a deadline.
Reboot.
When all else fails, turn it off and on again.

Uconn runs off the court for the national anthem as Iowa stays on court.
Does Uconn typically not stay on court for the anthem?
