Try not to lose your minds but let's talk about Geno's eventual successor. In my mind, Carla is #1. Shea may be #2. Kara Lawson would be high on my list too. Then you have the crazy thoughts. How about Luke Murray? He is the supposed architect of the men's offense and, damn, that is pure genius! If not, I hope we offer him head coach money to become Dan's associate head coach.

Carla recently said that, if asked, it'd be impossible to turn down. I don't think Shea takes it: I think she's got a great situation right now and doesn't need the pressure of succeeding Geno. I doubt Kara leaves Duke. Why would she? UConn without Geno is...just UConn without Geno. But even Geno said about Gail Goestenkors when she complained about Azurá Stevens jumping to UConn that Duke has no right to complain: they should be able to recruit easily.
Whoever is AD will ask Geno's opinion and then Geno will go off. So, Geno will have helped create the long short list. On that list should be Scott Rueck.

Whoever it might be, they will have the totally unenviable job of following the GOAT. You need a lot of faith to be the person who follows Coach's track record. IIRC, it has not worked out so well at other schools....See Lady Vols.

I'd say Carla, but as Geno said, the search should include coaches outside of the Uconn family.

I agree about Kara but UConn women are supported as much as the UConn men. I'm not sure that is true at Duke.

Luke Murray is an interesting idea. Would he switch to the women's game? Would his coaching translate?
I like Carla, or Tanya or Morgan. Continuity? It didn't work for TN, would it work here?

I'm not for Tanya or Morgan. I'd rather have someone from outside then either of them. Carla is the only one with the stature to take this job and run with it. She is simply terrific and has a proven track record. Watch Stanford try to get her.

"If your alma mater calls you, you take the call. I will say that. That's all I'll say." That is what Carla said, not that she would take it. I do think she would be great. I have also thought of Luke. I just hope that Ward Emanuel helps us get into the big ten by then, as big east women on the downswing aside from us. Fear the Louisiana Tech or old dominion path without geno if not in a strong league. Look at what dawn has done at South Carolina vs temple

I've said it before, I think the job is Carla's if she wants it. 17 years in D3, moves to a successful mid major D1 program and makes it even better, not exactly afraid of a challenge. Already recruits nationally and knows the system. While Princeton doesn't get the top of the line talent that the majors get, the kids she does get come from a lot of the same schools as the uber prospects so I'm sure she has many relationships among high school coaches and on the summer circuit. Having said that, I don't think Geno is leaving anytime soon. Each new freshen class seems to reinvigorate him and I think the incoming one will knock his socks off.

Re Carla, the Stanford job is going to be open way before our job.

I'm a huge Carla fan and I completely agree that the job is likely hers if she wants it, and she said this year that, if offered, she wouldn't turn it down.
However....(always one of those!)....
Carla has thrived at programs which are academically tops in their division (sorry Harvard and Yale: Princeton offers a better education; in fact, it's the world's best in my book). Can she recruit as successfully when she doesn't hold that card? (UConn is an excellent school, but has no dominance as does Tufts and Princeton.)
Also: Carla has shown that she gets the best out of, frankly, mostly nerdy 2nd tier athletes (with a sprinkling of 1st tier). Can she take super 1st tier athletes and turn them into all-Americans? And have them gell as a team?
Maybe yes to both of these. But not yet proven. It's her job for the asking, but we'll have to wait to see if she can replicate her earlier successes under very different conditions.
But if I were Dave Benedict, I'd also have my eye on Megan Duffy and watching how she does at VTech....

Isn't Marquette's post player in the portal?
