Hoping there was meant to be a sarcasm emoji in there somewhere..... Jeff's a good coach, but nowhere near Geno level. Let's face it, if we set the bar at Geno, no one will qualify (Wooden's no longer an option.) True, that.

I'm a huge Carla fan and I completely agree that the job is likely hers if she wants it, and she said this year that, if offered, she wouldn't turn it down. However....(always one of those!).... Carla has thrived at programs which are academically tops in their division (sorry Harvard and Yale: Princeton offers a better education; in fact, it's the world's best in my book). Can she recruit as successfully when she doesn't hold that card? (UConn is an excellent school, but has no dominance as does Tufts and Princeton.) Also: Carla has shown that she gets the best out of, frankly, mostly nerdy 2nd tier athletes (with a sprinkling of 1st tier). Can she take super 1st tier athletes and turn them into all-Americans? And have them gell as a team? Maybe yes to both of these. But not yet proven. It's her job for the asking, but we'll have to wait to see if she can replicate her earlier successes under very different conditions. But if I were Dave Benedict, I'd also have my eye on Megan Duffy and watching how she does at VTech.... Dredge up the USA team footage with Carla as head coach. I think they are all on YouTube. There were a lot of future superstars on that team, and wow! They were fun to watch.

Coach Carla handled a lot of top tier talent ... with maximum aplomb

Thanks, swash! That's a really good point. I should have considered that there were other ways to demonstrate her coaching of top tier talent.

I had taken that as meaning "answering the call," as in saying "yes." But she's a lot smarter and subtler than that!

I wonder if Berube wants to recruit. A great coach but Tufts didn't require dozens of flights around the country and Princeton does a lot of the recruiting for her.

I just hope that IF she wants/takes the job, she's happy and we're happy. If that's the case, look out world!

I like her a lot, and unless they were playing Rutgers we have always cheered for Princeton women's basketball. I agree with your points - the recruiting picture will be different if they are not coming to play for Geno. There are issues with coaching players at different levels of skill, and while I saw folks comments about her USA experience, that's a different group than running your own team. I have no investment in who UConn hires when the time comes, but there is always the "following a legend" thing to be concerned about. The unknowable is how the landscape of Women's College Basketball looks when the time comes. What will the conferences be, where will UConn be in the mix, etc. One random comment - while I got the joking reference to Jeff Walz and I've heard very mixed reviews on him as a person - one person saw him really acting very shitty at a hotel while another was talking about knowing him and how nice he is - there is no question but that he can coach. Not my cup of tea, but I've always been impressed by his coaching.
