OMG. How do we know? I'm watching the game, waiting for half time. Wasn't it supposed to be then? Was it leaked ahead of time. No matter. This is amazing news. What an incredibly fun team this. Semper: changing the title of the thread again! It wasn't leaked. She made her announcement at halftime. The half ended around 10:50. I now see: I'm actually watching a replay of the game. eejit :-)

Damn you, Sarah! I came to a hotel to get away from distractions to complete my taxes and start researching Medicare (and FMLA first) and just relax. I cannot freaking focus on that stuff now. So damn you, but I forgive you. At least I am in a hotel room where I can dance and sing loud as I want without my family giving me "that" eye. This has made me far happier than it should. It is basketball for God sakes. I have no stake in it except as a fan. But when dark clouds gather, a big ol' ray of sunshine is blessed relief - even if it is temporary and my life troubles won't go away with this joyful news. Oh, if it only would. WELCOME TO THE BASKETBALL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

Wow. Sarah may not like social media, but UConn sure does! check this out. What an amazing celebration: www.instagram.com/reel/C5bGk7zuvLn/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==also, the article on line on ESPN is great: catch it before it drops below the line: www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39882596/top-recruit-sarah-strong-commits-uconnWhen she talks about UConn, it is in a reverent manner similar to her high school decision.
"Just watching them play ... watching and realizing I can help them and be there. I'm just ready to be there and practice and play," Strong said. "I like the style and feel like I fill a need there. I'm drawn to the championship culture."
She vividly remembers discussing her development needs with the UConn staff during recruiting to ultimately help reach her potential.
"I can remember Geno [and assistant coaches Jamelle Elliott and Morgan Valley] coming to this little gym in 10th grade," she said. "UConn kept it real. They would tell me what I need to work on -- they would just tell me I need to get in better shape and now they've noticed a difference. Some coaches would be like, 'You're so good,' and obviously I know I'm not ready to be at the college level [currently]. I just like that they kept it honest."
In spite of the comfortable fit, there are still small adjustments to be made.
"[Geno] kind of scares me sometimes. He's really serious, but I also know that he cares about his players," Strong said, smiling. "Early on I thought it was going to just be basketball, but as we talked more and got to know each other better, I feel like he genuinely cares about his players. His sense of humor is different. Sometimes he's mad serious when he texts, no emojis or anything. And then sometimes he'll send a text 'heyyyyy' with a bunch of Y's and a smiley face."

I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying. I'm soooooo happy about Sarah Strong coming to UConn. (I took a side trip to learn about her mom, Allison Feaster - she's AMAZING too; Vice President of Team Operations & Organizational Growth for the Boston Celtics - after playing in the W for 8 years & then in Spain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allison_Feaster ) (her dad played for NC State)

I forgot all about this this morning. A welcome salve on the wound. The lead up had made me feel that this announcement was going to be a styling affair. I was so pleased that it wasn't. In the days when it is the heathens who swarm I was pleased that she thanked God and proceeded to be so humble and down to earth. Prompted about the position she wants to play, she said essentially wherever as long as Geno is coaching me. Impressive.

If they react with "I'll show him' and work hard to improve on what he pointed out that's what he wants. If they act offended or sulk it's time to move on. ESPN should be doing their final rankings for the 2024 class soon. Sarah, Allie and Morgan should all be in the top ten. What a haul.

We need some Strong here. She can work on the layups, even though she's fine with put backs.

I'm looking forward to reading why UConn's incoming freshman class is filled with question marks from the ESPN "brain trust".

Here's an old Strong video from a local TV station. A lot of insight into her recruiting process and a look at Sara the person. She was fairly candid here.
