Wish there was a symbol I could push for over-the-top excellent analysis. Thanks, DD

For the life of me, DD, I don't know how you manage to turn out such good and detailed analysis so quickly.
That Paige had more rebounds than Aubrey and Aaliyah combined is just one of many ways of demonstrating how important she is. Despite her early shooting woes, she filled out her box score so impressively, producing nearly 1/2 the team's steals and assists, with almost no turnovers. That precision when facing adversity is the mark of a real pro.

DoggyDaddy that was a great report. Loved it. And I'm with you on never giving those Orange fans an opportunity to reveal on line what miserable creatures they are.

And it's pretty formulaic. But thanks for reading it. It's why I do it!!

I remember going to MSG for both men's and women's games and UConn always had outside shooting problems that were attributed to the cavernous arena and how it alters depth perception enough to throw off outside shooters. I wonder if massive TBA has the same effect? It seemed that most of the early misses were just a bit long, but right on target.
I like the idea of taking every wide open three you are given. As long as the player has shown in practice they can make a decent %. If ONO and Griffin had each made one 3 early in the game it would have been a blowout. About a third of UConn's shots have been 3's over several seasons. ONO needs an outside shot to draw posts like Key out from the blocks and make them run around the perimeter. And ONO needs her team to make some 3's to keep the defense from collapsing into the paint. One thing I want ONO to improve on is her outlet passes. If she could get the ball downcourt sooner UConn's transition game would be lethal.
I'm very pleased with where this team is, both physically and mentally. I was hoping for a blowout but cold shooting turned it into the kind of game Tenn likes, at home, halfcourt, pound the glass, pound the glass. But UConn won playing their opponents' preferred style on their court. And UConn showed as much toughness in that 4th period, especially on the offensive boards, as I see in some tough UConn teams from the past.

Geno mentioned this, the first game in Knoxville: UConn won by 6. I tried to find this game archived. Would love to see it

Will add one thing about Liv hoisting a three here and there. When she did last night, all of her teammates were also outside the 3pt line. That puts all our eggs in Olivia's basket. Make it or go play D. When Paige or Anna miss the same shot, ONO and others can battle for any misses. Top shooters miss 60% from distance. But the offense may collect some of those and get another try. But if nobody is inside, then that shot ends the posession. So, I am in agreement with the benefits of taking those shots, but am frustrated when it doesn't come as part of a unified offense where one or more from the rest of the team is cutting through the lane and getting to position to vie for any misses.

Geno said in the presser that many of the shots were indeed open but they came from "nonsense."

I was just talking about that phenomenon with the basketball friend yesterday — the example I used was the Carrier Dome.

It cracks me up to see a Lady Vols supporter whining that ESPN made note of Paige's crucial three-pointer. Anyone want to take bets on how much that supporter complained when ESPN trumpeted Candace Parker's dunk at UConn?
I guarantee that Parker's dunk gets repeated more often by Lady Vols supporters than Paige's three will get mentioned in the future, but that's largely because we've got so many more highlights to discuss.
I know we all have our biases but it cracks me up to see something so obvious.

They only focus on his tongue in cheek comment about if Pat offered to help if his car was broken down that he would walk. They have no sense of humor over there. None! They particularly don't understand Geno. It is pure hate when it comes to Geno.

A lot of missed 3's carom 10-15 feet from the basket. It would be interesting to see how many of a team's offensive rebounds come off of missed threes. I agree that they need to happen in the flow. The Georgetown game was a good example of what should happen from giving UConn players unopposed 3 pt shots. Sure, it was GTown but the more ONO and Griffin make these shots in games the higher their confidence grows and it becomes problematic for teams packing the paint to stop drives.

Still despise ND more...and they look like they *might lose to North Carolina in the next few seconds. Assuming NC makes both free throws with 7.0 seconds left. Which they do. UNC leads 77-73. Looks like the Tar Heels might steal the leprechauns pot of gold today.
