We're leaving for 10 days in London tomorrow night. Very excited. We enjoyed ourselves so much in April, that we leapt at the chance to go back. Looking forward to immersing ourselves in museums, having a proper Sunday roast dinner, and the highlight of it all - The Carmina Burana in the Royal Albert Hall with two orchestras and 9 choral groups. Definitely a bucket list item. (humming -And now we'll know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall....!) I will miss the board, and hope to see lots of interesting posts when I get back just before the first exhibition game. Also hoping that the discussions are just that, discussions, with a little less acrimony...JMHO. Toodles! Color me so very, very jealous! That's just completely awesome! Yorkshire Pudding with the roast beef and trifle for dessert no doubt, and Carmina Burana. OMG.... Have such a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful time.

You are correct about the roast beef and yorkshire pud, but maybe sticky toffee pudding instead of trifle...looking forward very much to re-opened and re-hung National Portrait Galllery, and maybe choral evensong at Westminster.

A coworker made sticky toffee pudding for a potluck. It was gone before some people even had a chance at it. Next time he made two. Same result. Downright yummy stuff.

Gag, 48 hours of snow coming and somewhere in there -2 is predicted. Inspired me to order flannel lined Kuhl Easy Riders.

My wife is headed to Denver tomorrow. Nice weather but on Saturday she's going to a Miner's homecoming game with snow and 28* in the forecast.

Chicagogg -I'm not a big fan of British cuisine, which I think is marginally better than Scotland which isn't saying much, but then I've only been to London twice so my dining experience is limited. I hope you have the opportunity to try the Chicken Tikka Masala and of course a fish and chips lunch with chips drowning in malt vinegar.

Inspired me to order flannel lined Kuhl Easy Riders. yeah, I saw that, Rocky: as I've probably mentioned, ursusminor is married to an NPS Ranger, who served 4 years in the Yellowstone back-country. She spent two years there, herself. And, the NPS folks there seem to want to entice him back, once he's spent sufficient time in his current NPS assignment. So, I tend to keep an eye on the forecast, in an around the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (as it's known), not only because they once, and, may again, live there, but I luvvvv traveling to the northern Rockies and the states that they encompass. Hoping to make my second visit to Glacier, either in 2024 or 2025.

My youngest son and his girlfriend are down in Southern California at a horse show. A brush fire started nearby and really expanded overnight. The facility is right on the edge of one of the evacuation warning areas - one step down from evacuation order/mandatory evacuation. My son is monitoring Cal Fire for the barn where they board their horses in Woodside (near Menlo Park/Palo Alto) and is keeping the barn and the folks whose horses are at the horse show apprised. He stayed up all night monitoring Cal Fire, readying the trailer, and are ready to evacuate up to 6 horses if they come under an evacuation order. A bit nerve wracking for me. I remember being under such warnings as a child in So Cal. I remember how afraid my parents were. But, both my son and his girlfriend have good heads on their shoulders and will not take unnecessary chances. Still, I worry.

I read earlier this AM that 4000 people have been ordered to evacuate. High winds are driving the fire and as of a few minutes ago it was 0% contained.

As the new season approaches, I'm just logging in to let you all know that I'm still around. Not much computer time these days but as luck would have it, I should be able to watch more games than I have in the last few years. So there's that.

I have moved the "Daily Check-In" thread into Off Topic. It was created when the pandemic started as a place for folks to check in and let everyone know they were okay. Since it is now nearly 100 pages long (!!) and was pinned on the main board, the number of pinned threads there was getting to be too many. So, here it is in Off Topic, since, by its very nature, it is not on the topic of UConn or College Women's Basketball. I will still keep it pinned. You just need to look for it under Off Topic.

Love this thread, it makes the folks on the board more "human" with their various check-ins and updates. Good place for it, too.

Reminds me of this song. Which I imagine most of you won't appreciate. It's a bit much.

I got a text yesterday from my neighbor. They have Covid. His wife, a toddler and a newborn (6 weeks) are all infected. They spent an afternoon with us this past weekend. Fortunately, we both tested negative. I guess this stuff is going to be with us from now on.

But the worst thing, honestly, is there doesn't seem to be any way to know if you have Covid except testing. My wife tested negative, she hasn't been feeling well with a variety of symptoms. I never tested, but just before she got ill, I spent a week feeling so "dragging" - like I was walking underwater - that having recovered I almost feel like saying I haven't felt this well in years. No one seems to know what, if any symptoms, mean you are likely to have Covid. Part of why it is going to stay with us.

The Covid tests made us confident at we were OK. My wife had Covid last year and this time neither of us had symptoms. Last year when she tested positive she was pretty sick like a serious flu.
Covid tests are no longer free and not cheap.I did order some free tests through USPS that are free. They are expired shelf life that the CDC has determined to be OK.

Well, I've got it. 2 days of wondering if I would survive. Now just wondering how long before I feel semi normal again. My mouth tastes like I'm eating a '57 chevy. Side effect of paxlovid. Don't wish this on anyone. It's misery.

A lot of folks (my wife included, but not me) feel sick again for a couple of days. get better soon!
