I've read that farmers use 70% of our water but generally the estimates are even lower if you look statewide. First time I've seen the 90% figure cited. No doubt farmers use the bulk of it. A consideration is that lots of farms get water from the aqueduct coming down from the north. We need to find a way to take less of it from the Colorado River but the biggest water wasters are actually closer to the base in Colorado as I understand it. Arizona needs it badly. California needs to do a lot more to stop water run off into the ocean. We are using toilet water to drink now folks. Recycling it. Not a fan of that concept but that's our reality. Plenty of water up here in the Northeast.

Plenty of water up here in the Northeast. Will trade 10 degrees of temperature for 2 inches of rain. Not rain like the NE has had. It is warm, but I want to point out what our local columnist did - we here in Tucson (and probably most of Arizona) are relatively unphased by the hot temps. They are not really unusual, except they usually are in June rather than July. If it is under 115 - and it has been - a Tucsonan won't think twice. You adjust. But really looking forward to some monsoon rains - nothing significant predicted until Monday (when we leave for 10 days in also hot Texas).

We all use recycled toilet water. I am on a deep well. I pump our water from 200' down. We use it, including flushing, where it is routed to a septic tank. In the tank are jillions of little critters that munch up the waste and the leftover liquid drains to a leech field where it perks down into the water table to be reused. If you live in a big city and are on city water you are sharing processed water from thousands of toilets.

I was looking at the "Members" list here and noticed something that took me by complete surprise. It looks as though a majority of the members on this forum joined up and then NEVER visited this site again ! I do wonder why someone would go through the trouble of signing up and then never visit us again ? Thoughts ?

I looked at that long ago. It's pretty amazing. Even people like Zorro. Of course we scared a few away too, like Triad. And Icebear left for parts unknown. But all those hundreds of others. It's strange. I think they like another site were there is lots of traffic and you can get lost in the crowd. Tony C pops by from time to time, but then disappears for months.

Just returned from celebrating my brother's 70th at Mohonk Mountain House. Obscenely expensive, but worth every penny. What a wonderful, wonderful place. Great hiking, water stuff, fantastic food, and, with my brother's entire family, the best possible company outside my own family. I know that swash likes to rock climb at the nearby Gunks. We're far too old and timid. But I did always take the stairs instead of the elevator (5th floor room!!!), even after a heavy meal.

Personally I think that is very strange- why bother signing up if you aren't going to post or even lurk?

So I think my posts reflect that we have begun traveling again and are somewhat focused on visiting some National Parks in the near future. My wife has been very concerned about wanting to be able to drive on dirt roads in parks (as we experienced with our Subaru in Big Bend) and decided that my beloved 20 year old Ford Ranger with 147000 miles had to go as being potentially risky for hard travel.
So she and I are the proud owners of a new Jeep Wrangler.
I am only posting to make 2 comments -
1 - car prices are simply out of this world. I thought our Outback was expensive in 2016.
2 - the extended warranty that the dealer "sold" us runs to $8,300 for 7 years. Thankfully, we haven't actually finalized the payment yet, even though we have the car, so we are thinking of not taking the extended warranty on 2 thoughts - ---I can supposedly get it on line more cheaply, or so the web claims ---If you can't afford to repair the car, you probably shouldn't have the car.
Just sharing, as part of my accepting the change.

Heading back to Palo Alto tomorrow for 10 days of research and family (not necessarily in that order!). Looking forward to visiting a few ailing friends there.

Heading home after a terrific family visit and some good work (but having to see a giant billboard of Cameron Brink while driving the 101).

After that, the warranty company refused to pay on ridiculous grounds. Impossible to contact them directly. Imo, they qualify as a scam.

Hi, Just wanted to tell you that we have decided to sell our retirement home in Guilford. It's a real emotional wrench for our family, but we aren't coming back. We are going stay in South Bend. And another one of us has settled in Denver. The cord has snapped. But I'm still a Nutmegger at heart and my blood will always run Husky blue, it's just feeling very strange...

One side of me feels deeply that separation anxiety that I read in (or read into) your words. The other encourages you to celebrate putting this difficult decision into the rearview mirror. Embrace the activities needed to close that chapter, and recognize that the border isn't closing. Friends, Family, the entire CT hospitality industry, Airbnb, VRBO, etc... rest assured there will be a place for you in CT ... Guilford, even. Your huskies will be there for you, too. Many of us cannot make it to games live, but never miss a minute ... sometimes repeats, too.

I have a favor to ask of my fellow fans. I start radiation therapy tomorrow for a DCIS. Please think good thoughts (prayers if you do) for me. I feel almost guilty asking this, as I'm 95% sure of 100% cured.
Like you, I REALLY want a NC this scholastic year.
