So give me some help here:
So other team's fans register on (UConn) forums that are NOT the team they cheer for? (Did I write that to make sense?)
Why? Why would you want to go to this forum if you're not a fan. And in fact cheer against them? I don't get that concept?
I mean, I could care less about reading what Notre Dame, or SC fans have to say about their own team. If there was some, like, secret intel being shared - oh boy! - spy stuff. But I don't think that's the case.
So what's up with that?

One thing about coming here, we will not protect them.

I regularly read the LV & Irish boards and occasionally have posted there. They are really the only other boards that have much going on. I enjoy talking with fans of other teams as long as they behave rationally. The LV board has a handful of posters who see UConn as the great satan and will undoubtedly end up out on a window ledge but most are willing to discuss their team.
And frankly I don't find making up nicknames for freshmen very interesting.

I registered here and on TOB (is that the right terminology?) simply because I enjoy the community of UConn fan's views on the sport of WBB and many other topics of interest to fans of WBB.
Shockingly (not to those of you who have seen my posts over the years) I don't read much of the "pure" UConn stuff - sometimes a little, like the threads on this board about the recent overseas trip and a thread about Sue Bird the other place. But in general, I don't read recruiting stuff, certainly not game threads, and mostly not commentaries about UConn's players, past or current. I don't disrespect UConn, but I come to UConn boards for the rest of what gets discussed.
There are folks on the UConn boards whose opinions and knowledge I respect a great deal; there are some folks that are just good people, even a few I very occasionally exchange private messages with.
I'll add that I don't read anyone else's boards except Rutgers, my alma mater, which I followed closely from the mid '90s through 2011 when we moved to Arizona, and for whom I still root. I would read an AZ board if there was one, but we are still rebuilding the program under our 2nd year coach. Whether there will ever be a board remains to be seen.

TOB has long had a great number of fans from other teams, and sometimes they dominate the conversations in ways I haven't enjoyed. I quit TOB when they banned Doggy, and then decided I liked life better with our small, too small really, group over here. I do wish a few others would post more, Ice, Doggy, David, to help out me and Chicago. I don't know where Rady is these days, but her work is stressful (so is mine!). Also Triad is one of our crew, and he posts quite a bit. He is a Dukie, you probably know. But all the rest of the regulars here are diehard UCONN fans. Once the season starts, so will we, I hope. It's going to be an amazing year!
I despise the Vols, and so when something bad happens to them, I confess, I lurk over there a bit. But never for long, and I never respond. And I know it's a weakness of character.

I live in NY.
Kinda in Stewie's back yard. I subscribe to syracuse.com. (You should see their UConn comments. You should have seen their Stewie comments. Unreal.)
My DIL graduated from Upstate Med. My best friend's daughter from Syracuse. I've been to DOZENS of Syracuse football and basketball games. And I started despising Syracuse WBB after the infamous tripping incident. Further disgust followed with not allowing Stewie to have a home game in her senior year.
It SHOCKS me to hear from my Syracuse fan buddies that they read about UConn in forums! I can't understand what they're after and I've asked. I've come to a sad conclusion that I'm reluctant to pursue (because they're still my friends:) they're looking for something to hate or smirk about or criticize.
That seems poorly to me.......

I find most of people who post here are rational, both about UConn and their "own teams". Some are also pretty funny in addition (see Triad).
I try to stay away from TOB because of: massive negativity towards our OWN TEAM and coaches..."others" who love to take over threads and inflame situations, and the fact that it can be a pretty uncivil place.
Thankfully, like Padre Ice said, we won't protect them over here. Which is probably why most of them don't stay too long...
I am waiting for the season, or at least practices to start. I hope that all who are regularly here...all those mentioned by Semper and then some...will soon be back in force. I do miss Rady and Cat. Don't hear enough from David. Thanks to Semper, Rocky, Triad, Zoney, et al for keeping the home fires burning.
BTW - Ice - is all well with you?? Know your work must be quite taxing.
And Semper - still travelling? - both in actual time and space and along your earlier centuries of expertise?

I'll be in England next week for a few days, and have to write a talk this weekend to give. That doesn't stop. This week I was having office hours with my sophomores, and first of all one of them is from Madison. So we shot the breeze about the season and our favorite players, etc. Then today, one of the students found out I was from CT, and told me she went to high school with Lou, and really likes her. Said she's a great kid. So it was a good two days!!

Also glad you can admit to your students that you are a UCWBB fan, and get positive responses. I am pretty sure I have some envy for your travels (and frequent flier miles!)

Any day now I'm expecting someone to lob a wasps nest into a thread on TOB about, what else, the 5th starter and who comes off the bench first. the former alegit ? beaten to death, the second a ridiculous question.
