Let's stay on topic. Neither the Donald or Hillary have any say or even a vote in this poll.

I am creating this thread as a place to move posts that veer into political commentary.
This will help keep discussions on topic, especially those specific to basketball - which IS our reason for being. Especially this election season, political views are particularly divisive.
The thread is clearly labeled. Your choice to read or not read.
Thanks!

So, food has to wait for a couple of seconds. The day after. A nonpolitical, I think, political question. How do we make every vote count? Do away ith the whole battle ground state demographic and do away with the Electoral College? I have always had a problem with it. BTW I did not vote for Mrs. Clinton. So, when the dust settles I will start my research on pluses and minuses for the Republic.
Back to food: I have a piece on breaded fish filets: " the evil joy" in our longest running Off Topic hit.

Well reading up a little, the Electoral College's purpose was to continue with the people and state representation. The House of Reps represents the people or population (number of reps based on population of state), while the Senate represents the states (2 reps per state). They wanted the President selected this way, a combination of both. Hence the Electoral College. One way to make a little better, without completely doing a way with it is like Maine and Nebraska do it. 1 elector by popular vote in each congressional district and 2 electors by state wide popular vote. IDK, might make it better? Although Maine went 1 Trump / 3 Clinton instead of 4 Clinton. So that didn't help her this year.

I watched a bunch of news reports covering the post election protests. Are they protesting democracy?

I watched a bunch of news reports covering the post election protests. Are they protesting democracy? Actually, if I understand the American system, they're practicing democracy. Democracy being the system of one person, one vote, and since Clinton won the popular vote (as did Gore in 2000), they're vigorously objecting to a non-democratic result of the presidential campaign. But, The United States isn't a strict democracy: it's a republic, where designated representatives act on behalf of the people as a whole. The Electoral College functions as such. And, protests are a long-established American institution, from the Boston Tea Party to the Draft Riots to Suffragette marches to Civil Rights protests to the Vietnam War to gay rights to Black Lives Matter. So, nothing undemocratic about folks taking to the streets to voice objection to the status quo.

You must have protested your way through 3rd grade civics since you don't seem to understand representative democracy.

Anybody out there know why Michigan's results still haven't posted? Just wondering why one state is still hanging out there like a chad...?

I spent 8 years watching them beat and humiliate kids just because they could get away with it.

Holy crap! That's her! The ruler was her main weapon although she could throw a pretty mean punch too. If she was really pissed it was the edge of the ruler across the knuckles. I saw her break a kids nose in 7th grade.

You just made me remember our geometry teacher in sophomore year, Sr. Mary Thomas. She threw a text book the length of the classroom and cracked the blackboard. That focused me greatly on doing well in geometry.

Mike Rowe on the electionElected by people who just wanted to be seen. Brilliant. And I am heartened to note that the Democrats and their pouting news media dupes are busy doubling down on denigrating anyone who voted for Trump. I do hope that this President does a good job and America goes back to work so come another site elections the fascists( and their thought police) who call themselves Democrats get another thrashing.

That focused me greatly on doing well in geometry. Freshman year, Algebra. We were seated alphabetically, and, since my last name begins with the letters "F" "A", I was seated directly behind Dave "D""E". Dave had a tough time grasping a concept that Br. Thomas was trying to teach us. In frustration, Br. Thomas punched the file cabinet next to him - and, put a substantial dent in it. As 14-year old males, this made quite an impression upon us, and, as you say, focused our attention. We quickly found out, through the school gossip mill, that Br. Thomas had been a light-weight boxing champion as a young man in Brooklyn.
