The last time the Cubs were in the World Series? 1945
The last time the Cubs WON the world Series? 1908
It is time. Let it happen!
I am not a pro sports fan...but I think I just might watch the World Series. If the Cubs are talented enough, gutsy enough and if the ball bounces their way, it will be special.
I grew up a Dodgers fan from my childhood days. My earliest young girl "crush" that I remember was Steve Garvey (closely followed by Kurt Russell). My dad would take me to a couple games a year, just me - Mom and my sister were not interested. But when I moved to Nebraska at age 12, there were no professional teams of any kind, let alone baseball. The closest AL team was the Royals. The closest NL team was the Cubs. During baseball season, Nebraskan's loyalty broke along two lines - Royals or Cubs. My aunt Ginny was a HUGE Cubs fan, so that is where my allegiance broke since when the Cubbies were playing and we were with her, that is what we watched. But...I was becoming a teenager, and without a true home team, I lost interest in pro sports in general. Deep in my heart, if I have to root for a pro baseball team in the National League, it is the Cubs.
GO CUBBIES!

If the Cubs do win the WS, they will undergo the same transformation that Red Sox fans have undergone. Their very identity will be stripped away from them and will be replaced by ... You fill in the blank

I have always had to say "wait til next year." No more. The Cubbies are in the World Series! I would have loved to have been in Chicago last night. It was probably more exciting than when the Bears won the Super Bowl, because the wait had been so long.
Only thing better would be to be in Wrigley this coming week for one of the games.
GO CUBS!!!

With the Cubs it has been more "Wait till the next decade." If they win the series Theo Epstein will be integral to breaking the two greatest curses in sports history. Amazing! Heck of a GM.

Cubs are considering letting Kerry Woods throw out a first pitch but they are afraid his arm will fall off.

I'll tell ya - if the Red Sox could break their curse and go on to win multiple World Series, anything can happen. Anything. And I will be hoping, praying, watching, dreaming that it will be so. In Theo and Joe I trust. (Don't break my heart, Tito!!)

Basically, the Red Sox are trying to help break the curse in Chicago, too. Epstein, Francona (using the back door), Lackey, Lester ...

I care, I am a baseball fan, and all this is fun. If you don't care, why post?

If the Cubs win I hope their fans revel in it. I am just over pro sports. Didn't mean to get anyone POed. Certainly don't want you on my case here too.

RE: Last night's game. AAARRRGGHHH! Feeling better today? Yes, I am!! Thank you for asking! And I am so psyched to watch the next 3 games actually IN Wrigley Field. It seems like I've waited a lifetime for that. Oh wait, I have....

Who CAN'T root for the Cubbies in the World Series? Me. Growing up a St. Louis Cardinals fan since before I could walk or talk. We were not even allowed to use the "C" word in our house without getting our mouths washed out with soap. Save UCONN winning #4, this has probably been one of the worst years of my life. Figures that team from Chicago would add to it. And St. Louis is closer to Nebraska than Chicago anyway.

Love ya, Meyers, but the Cardinals have WON in our life times. Sorry to add to your troubles, but cheer up (sort of) there are still as many as 5 games to go. Once of us will be happier than the other one. We just don't know which one, yet.

Congrats to the Cubbies. After 108 years, they are again World Champions! What a great series and great game 7. Looked like Chicago was going to ruin away with it, then Cleveland came back. Cubs extended the lead, Indians caught up. Rain delay to start extra innings, Cubs score two runs in the top of the 10th. Indians get one back, tying run on base, winning run at the plate. Then, Victory!!!! Kind of felt like I was watching a Hollywood movie, so much drama.
I have said I am not a fan of pro sports. And I am not. But that was quite enjoyable.

First let me say that I am beyond thrilled that the Cubbies have FINALLY won a World Series. That game last night - oh brother! It started great, went bad, got worse, then the rain delay....and boom! They won! If Theo didn't punch his card to The HOF for assembling this group, I don't know what would be a difference maker on a resume. Way to go Cubbies! Fly the W!!
Kudos to the Indians - they were a very worthy opponent, and if it had gone their way I would be happy for them. (Unlike if it was - just saying - the Yankees or the Orioles...)I bet they will be back as a thorn in the Red Sox side for quite a few years to come. Tito has always been a class act, and they have been fun to watch.

At work, eating pizza with the guys...watching the Cubs parade down Michigan Avenue. Looks like a perfect day in Chicago. Millions and millions along the parade route and in Grant Park. Wow. What sight. Wish I was there (but watching the parade from the window of our old apartment on the 37th floor just off Michigan Ave). Great day for Cubs fans everywhere!!!

And me here on the 26th floor of an office building where my only exposure to the parade is the sound of the horns and sirens from below. It's ok, though, I'm sure CSN will have a replay of the rally. But I'd be playing hooky if I could get away with it!

I bet the commute will be horrendous, even if the rally breaks up by midafternoon.
We tried to find the WGN superstation, but all the cable company here would give us was the ESPN coverage with talking heads blathering over the footage of the busses rolling past the Hancock, and crowd shots down in the Park by the bandshell in Grant Park. I'm going to try CSN, thanks for the idea!
