Here is another illustration of the failed political system. A train does not slow approaching the Hoboken terminal and slams into/up on the terminal. First guess: operator error or equipment failure. Next we'll hear that saftey equipment/systems have not been implemented because yadda yadda yadda. Meanwhile the mating habits of the Galapagas tortoises are being funded and a million like it, etc, etc. Politicians have forgotten they are elected to serve, not stick their faces in the trough.

Politicians have always had their face in the trough. That's why they are politicians. By the time they finish feeding off the taxpayer there's not much left to get stuff done.

Of course, we do not yet know anything about the cause of this accident. Yet, we sure have a bunch of negative speculation. Failed political system, failed politics, greed and selfishness - if it turns out this is, indeed, the case, I'll acknowledge it. If it turns out that it was mechanical, operator or some other system failure, will you two come back and acknowledge that?

If it turns out that it was mechanical, operator or some other system failure, will you two come back and acknowledge that? I don't think you got my point. Here is the point: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3814168/PTC-safety-technology-MISSING-deadly-Hobo-ken-crash.htmlThey gave their Kroneys a pass; probably for a couple of trips to Jamacia and 4 or 5 bimbos and a deposit in a Swiss bank. This continuing extension of time on saftey systems in the RR industry has been going on for years. So, no, I will not be back to acknowledge that I'm wrong. Au contraire.

Again, you speculate "probably for a couple of trips to Jamaica, and 4 or 5 bimbos, and a deposit in a Swiss bank' (punctuation mine). You may be right - but, it may just have been the public's resistance to paying for the cost of buying and installing these systems. Or, it could have been the unionized employees fear of replacement - there appears to have been evidence of the RR industry lobbying against the expense of the systems. Yet, you place no blame on the public, the employees or the business interests - you place all of it on the public officials.
Again, you may be right. I'm just saying, don't be so quick to knee-jerk blame elected or appointed officials. They do not operate in a vacuum. Sometimes they are being venial selfish bastards. Sometimes, it's entrenched business or labor interests that win the day. Sometimes, it's the public's desire to avoid having to pay for things. And, sometimes, it's just a goddamn accident.

My comment had nothing to do with the train accident. I simply commented on the feeding habits of politicians.
However, questions are rightfully being asked about the lack of a PTC system on board.
