Geez, without any injuries, we're already down to 13 players. At this rate we won't be able to field a team (when the injuries start kicking in).

I wish her the best. I always thought Ines deserved better. She saved us last year when we were down to 5/6 players. She got us thru a very tough stretch.
I hope she flourishes.

And this is the other shoe I expected to drop. I was actually told this at the BE Tournament by the father of a huge UConn fan who spent about 15 minutes talking to Ines. Ines told the daughter this directly, so I knew it was coming.
Best of luck to you, Ines. I hope you find a good landing spot. Some team is going to get a pretty spunky point guard. Too bad she really didn't get a chance to shine here, except during a very critical period when she stepped up big last year.
Once a Husky, always a Husky.

I felt she got a raw deal this year, but she kept her head and heart in the game. May she find a good spot and shine.

I agree with everything except that she deserved better. I believe she got what she wanted, an opportunity to play at this level with great, talented teammates, and with a historic coaching staff. She was a tick or two below the level of the starters, but she did her job to the best of her abilities, always trying hard, and I think there is a player there that is pretty good. She needed more time on the floor to be more confident in the flow, and I think her decision to transfer is a good one for her. She was one of my favorites, and I wish her well.

Dan Connolly: can't remember if this is his subscription or free newsletter, but anyway, it's Ines's public statement.
“Thank you UConn Nation for these past two years,” Bettencourt wrote on Instagram. “Being able to come from my small island in Portugal to the United States for the first time at 17 is something I would have never dreamed of. To my coaches, I want to thank you for taking a chance on me when no one else would. To my teammates, thank you for accepting me into this amazing family and to UConn Nation, you guys have been some of my biggest supporters during my time at UConn. I will always hold a place in my heart for this amazing experience and cannot wait to see what chapter is next for me. Thank you UConn!”
It was a good experience for both sides. UConn got essential minutes last year, and Ines got lots of exposure and training. Really, really liked her and looking forward to all her success, especially on the Portuguese international team.

I saw her statement on X - very well-said.
(I now see that the statement on X was a repost of her instagram post)

I'd love to see what a healthy team could do.

It's been so long that we have had anything even near to a full contingent. I hope for next year, at long last.

It's been so long that we have had anything even near to a full contingent. I hope for next year, at long last. There was a time when Geno acted as if 13 was a full contingent, but I think he may have revised that thinking. I haven't looked at the numbers but my impression is that season ending injuries are up which might be traced to participants playing basketball year-round, never taking a break, leading to more injuries. It's probably worth researching to see if it's true and if that's the cause, but if it's true, I won't be surprised if he leans toward 15.

These young people are focusing on one sport far too early and playing it 12 months a year; the long term wear and tear on bodies still physically maturing has to be at the root of all the injuries. IMO programs are going to start considering injury history when vetting potential recruits. Dont see how they can keep awarding four year free rides to players who are only available for half of the games.

I am a fan of Ines and if she goes to work for Jose I'm sure she'll flourish. A much better outcome for a basketball player than warming the pine, even if it 1s UConn pine.
