I didn’t see a thread for this. Notre Dame goes down to Oregon State 70-65. Hidalgo does what most freshman do. 10 points on 4-17 from the field and 0-3 on threes. Bye bye Irish!! So you are expecting to see Arnold and Shade choke in the next game like most freshmen do? Hidalgo missed more than 4 minutes while the metal was removed from her nose and I think it was pretty obvious that it affected her game.

But she shouldn't have been wearing it in any case. So that's on her and on her coach, as you said earlier.

But as someone else said, they aren’t the focus of the team like Hildago with the ball in their hands most of the time. But while I don’t expect it, it’s certainly possible.

Agree with the statements about blame to her and the coaches for flaunting the rule all year. That said ... the intent of that rule is to protect her and her opponents. This particular piece is extremely unlikely to cause harm to another player, and the remaining risk is hers. I understand why it has been allowed to this point. If the NCAA had any foresight, they'd have made it clear between games and not as a bloody incident during a game. If that happened and she still wore it, she's lucky to not be sat for a whole game.

I have seen a few. Enough to have talked at home about the silliness that ears are prohibited but noses and lips are allowed.

"Nose-gate" may have affected Hidalgo, but:
Despite her having 4 ribbies, which isn't exceptional one way or the other (so it's not obviously affecting her there), OSU outrebounded ND by a whopping 42-24. I doubt it was because the other Irish players were so upset with what happened to their teammate that they forgot to jump.
Hidalgo didn't shoot well from the floor, but neither did Citron. 9-25 and only 1-6 from 3. Too upset about her teammate?
OTOH, while ND didn't shoot well from the floor, it was 9-9 from the free throw line. When there wasn't a hand in their face, they shot pretty well. Time to give OSU's defense some credit.

As an aside I don't understand nose rings or a lot of other piercings. I grew up on a farm and our bulls had nose rings for control. Mostly I remember that they were always coated with snot. I worked on a dairy farm. Mostly cows of course but we had a bull or two over the years. Yes they had a nose ring and it wasn't decorative it was for control, which probably informs my views regarding nose rings in humans.

For sure we haven't heard the end of this one! I'll bet a lot of money you're absolutely right on this It was pretty clear she wasn't herself, and I knew she was required to remove the nose ring but it wasn't until later that I realized how difficult that was, so I can imagine that it affected her. That said, the rule against jewelry is not in the obscure rule so it's on her and mostly her coach to make sure they follow the rules. If a rule is stupid advocate changing it but this one isn't.

No, not the nose ring. Unless that happened in all these games- 5-17 Tennessee 7-18 Syracuse 6-16 Pittsburgh 7-25 Florida State 4-19 NC State 4-14 Clemson 7-21 Boston College 5-16 Louisville 5-14 Kent State

We would attach a length of chain to the ring while the bull was in the stanchions. Our other control was an ax handle. Sounds cruel but when you were bring a bull out to a cow they could get pretty dangerous. My grandfather was gored and spent 2 months in a hospital.

My student-teacher mentor's husband was killed by a bull as she watched from the kitchen window. It was horrible. Those rings were essential for bulls on the farm because the nose there is very sensitive and if you pull there they stop because it is so painful. And the only way to control an move a bull from one place to another, etc. So I, like VTCWbuff, grew up on a farm, and when I see nose rings on people, especially in the place between the two nostrils, it's just pure bull. Few who had grown up on a dairy farm would dream of such a thing. Gotta be a unban phenom.

UCLA-LSU is a fantastic game. Wow, Betts has really grown up. She's a big time super big, with 2 more years to develop.

Someone has to be the goat (not the GOAT) in the game, and it looks like Kiki's play down the stretch gets the nod. She didn't play well and made poor decisions.

Someone needs to shut up Angel Reese. By far my least favorite player in all of college basketball. I hope either Iowa or Colorado can shove the ball down her throat and send her home in tears.

I don't follow UCLA closely enough to know what sort of an outside game they have, but, in the last couple of minutes, their offense seemed to consist entirely of trying to drive to the hoop - no inside/out, no balance, just try to jam in down LSU's throat. Not easy to do, especially given that the refs usually allow a pretty physical end to many games.

They could be right as it had to be surgically removed, bled a lot, and was apparently very painful. So the OSU coach complained? That's really interesting. I had my ears pierced and quickly gave it up. My ears were always in pain. My body simply rejected foreign things in my ears. But even if I could wear earrings, I don’t think I could do nose, tongue, lip, or other body part piercings. Then again, I only wear my wedding ring (not engagement ring), a simple cross necklace and my Apple Watch. That is it for jewelry for me. Makes my husband happy. I had my ears pierced when I was 9. I am allergic to nickel. Guess what the metal in the studs was? Nickel. My ears blew up like Dumbo's. I was accused of getting dirt in them and infections... until the doctor took one look at me, and another at my mother's equally Dumbo ears and said "Louise, the child has Your Allergy!" I soaked them in epsom salts for weeks and wear earings with 18K gold wires. So too, did my mother. and I inherited her earings, too.
Thanks for reading, I love telling tales of my childhood and my parents. I miss them, they loved the Huskies, too.

My grandmother had to chase the bull off and drag my grandfather to safety. Then she ran a quarter mile to a neighbor with a phone. She was 60+ years old and probably didn't weigh 100 pounds. She lived to age 94 and she was always my hero.

I had never heard of a nickel allergy. I had to Google it. Then I asked my wife and she said it was common when she was a kid. Lots of her school friends had a problem with nickel earrings.

but for years, my wrist was always bleeding. finally got desensitized to the nickel in the watch backs.
