It's interesting that when they decided to analyze Clark's numbers they compared to last year's numbers for Clark. I wonder if they started that exercise noting that she scored one more point this year — when they laid out the whole stat line the conceded that it wasn't quite as good as last year. In fairness, as they point out, the differences weren't really meaningful.
Let's do a different comparison. Clark: 27 points Bueckers:28 points Advantage Bueckers
But Clark had a double double with 10 assists, that's awesome. Bueckers had a double double with 11 rebounds, that's impressive. PUSH
Clark hit 1/3 of her three-point attempts Bueckers hit 1/3 of her three-point attempts PUSH
Clark was 8 for 19 42% Bueckers was 11 for 19 58% Advantage Bueckers
Clark only had six turnovers Bueckers only had zero turnovers Advantage Bueckers
Clark earned her stats against a 16 seed Bueckers earned her stats against a 14 seed Advantage Bueckers

Wow, Phil, that's pretty amazing. Paige is getting dissed in more ways than one, and not just with the terrible fouling going on, which Geno addressed. Grrrrrr.....

"Fair scored the final 13 points for Syracuse, and it came after being carried off the court late in the third quarter with what looked like a potentially serious leg injury."
They had this guy in the lockerroom for Syracuse.

I know which I prerfer.

I have never heard (or read) anything negative about Paige. The adulation awarded to CC should not be interpreted as a denigration of Paige Bueckers, and Paige would be the first person to say that Clark's well-deserved fame is perhaps the best thing that's ever happened to women's basketball. I personally think that Willie Mays was the best ballplayer I ever saw, but Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle and Roberto Clemente were all very great players too, deserving of their adherents and their fame. In sports, luckily, there can be more than one sun in a solar system, and more than one galaxy in the heavens. We should be delighted that we live in a time where both young ladies (and others) play with such flair and success. It's WCBB's version of Federer, Nadal and Djokovich.

Caitlin deserves it. She is a fabulous player who makes playing basketball look easy, especially those ridiculously long-range threes. Next year another player will draw the attention of the press. Paige is the most likely at this point.

Paige is the most likely at this point. CC is great. Paige... will be a second year back from ACL... and a year of development. Look out. And if the team around her can be great, that'll magnify the hype, too.
