During the goal-tending, it's Ashlynn who appealed for that call. Yet she made the putback, so she was sacrificing her own bucket for Paige's. Otherwise, Ashlynn would have ended up high scorer. A million reasons why I'm an Ashlynn fan. Now 1,000,001.

Perhaps because female players have the good sense to realize that goaltending is really dumb. Until the ball is inside the rim, there's a chance that the shot will miss. If you goaltend, you might as well be putting the 2 (or, rarely 3) points on the scoreboard.

I still haven't seen stats on how often goaltending occurs but I did see one discussion making an interesting point — when it does happen it is usually because someone accidentally gets their hand in the net or hits the backboard, while very rarely because they contact the ball in the cylinder or after it hits the backboard.

Instead, she has played like a solid veteran. In the BET final it was Brady who was the rookie star. UConn doesn't need any one of the 1st year players to play exceptionally well. Just one of the 4. And that is doable. Having someone like Bueckers on the floor with you takes a lot of pressure off and the home crowd in Gampel doesn't hurt either.
