Who's left? Mary Ashley Stevenson (6'2" Purdue). She had a really outstanding freshman year, averaging 10 and 5 against very solid competition. I'm surprised she's still in play. And maybe a brainiac, too (at least she went to Dalton). She's from NYC, and maybe wants to get back east. But it would be a 3 year commitment, and does UConn really want that? UConn already has an amazing 6'2" player for next year and aspirations for other greats the following year. She's gonna be really, really good, and too bad it's not a great fit. I'm betting another school in Indiana has its eyes on her.... Stevenson's wearing the Beers-like face mask. She is gonna be a player! She's right-handed, but note that left-handed jump hook at the begining. I just keep waiting for someone terrific to recruit her. The more tape I watch on her, the more impressed I am. She's going to have a terrific college career and a lot of time as an international pro. She was the 97th-rated player coming out of high school (then Mary Ashley Groot). Going to Dalton, she didn't get the competition or national exposure that merited an accurate ranking. Retrospectively, she'd easily be in the top-50. Lots to like here and, with 3 more years of eligibility, there's huge upside. Not UConn, of course, because of how few spots UConn might have next year and with such good people her size, but I'm hoping for a great landing spot for her. Duke or North Carolina (but neither needs players her size) would be great. Louisville always seems to need players....please, not Notre Dame! She is the steal of the portal.

Would put Iowa right back up there in the B1G: Lucy shoots; Maryam rebounds.

While it doesn't seem that UConn will fill that final scholarship with a big portaller (though one never knows!), this move offers some insight into UConn.
Tess Heal averaged nearly 20 pts and 5 assists/game last year. On the surface, similar to Kaitlyn Chen, though Kaitlyn played against much tougher competition (a couple of tough Ivies and a great OOC schedule, for an Ivy). Heal will very likely start for the next two years. Hard to imagine Stanford didn't offer Kaitlyn. She would have had more more minutes at Stanford than at UConn. But she chose a far more competitive team.

So happy that she landed, probably exactly where she should have. She's gonna do great. She's a smart, highly ambitious kid, with a really high motor. A natural leader and a terrific player. In a different world, would have been a great Husky (but we're stocked and have other interests).

Among the "biggish" players remaining are Janiah Barker (hard to believe there's any interest on either side), Cameron Williams (who's not terribly impressive but would expect minutes and is rumored to be signing with Baylor), and Maryam Dauda, who would be a tremendous addition and about whom UConn MAY have expressed interest. Dauda (who had originally signed with Baylor out of high school and, when Kim left, asked for and got her release and went to Arkansas) will have too high market value (competitive minutes and maybe NIL) for what UConn likely has in mind.

Probably her level (betting with some financial inducements thrown in)...leaving Barker and Dauda. Although Caroline is following Dauda on Instagram, there doesn't seem to be any other media connection to UConn. Most of the public spin is toward Iowa. I imagine Maryam's value continues to increase, the longer she waits....Would not discount South Carolina. She would be a great fit there and would immediately catapult South Carolina into the very elite teams. Dawn has a lot of both social capital and real capital to offer....

I don't know if Colorado is going to be any good, but they are going to be big!

I committed to beer. Had a nice lager with my scallops in Newport...and the waitress went to UConn as did/do her two daughters!

Dauda is reportedly down to Baylor and South Carolina. Both programs have deep pockets, but if she decides on the latter, it will make for a very, very good team.
If she signs before Janiah Barker, Barker will get a very big payday (or an even bigger one), I'm betting from LSU.

That's a complete shocker to me. Certainly puts a lot of talented players on the court. Cori's always been a great recruiter, and now she has deep pockets to make big offers as well. But wonder what it adds up to on the score board....Betts2 wil be there next year, so they should have an amazing front court.

That is a VERY big get for South Carolina. In the space of 24 hrs, 2 of the top 6 teams (others: UConn, Southern Cal, ND, and Texas) have significantly been improved.
