Wow, I can't believe I never thought of that dynamic.
As others have pointed out this can cut both ways.

Can't help but wonder what the conversations are like among the players with all this horse trading going on...Do they watch carefully, they must. That's another dimension to the crazyness.

In the olden times most transfers sat a year which buffered the impact on the team players. Now it's so and so is transfering in and 2 days later she's your roomie and (name it).

That's another dimension to the crazyness. probably some must be in contact with one another. Still, there's a lot of posturing probably going on. It's not just where you end up playing, but how much you're going to get to play there. The big schools have pots of money (see my thread in Off Topic) that they can distribute. But there are limits to that and to the overall availability in the NIL collectives. I'm not suggesting that this is the main motivation for landing at a school (though it may well be at, say, LSU; and more recently HVL seems to have been playing games with TCU before signing there). But it is a consideration. There's a finite amount.

Not irrelevant to UConn's current interest is this obvious factoid. Kiki forwent the trip South Carolina, because she had made up her mind. Someone else, however, did fly cross country to visit another powerhouse because she clearly hasn't made up her mind.

As currently constructed , I rate Uconn as the 5 maybe 6 best team entering next season. Too many question marks, injuries, lack of established front court talent.

Well, Magic, I would have agreed with you until we got Strong. But I think she really changes things and pushes us from a 5-6 to a strong FF team. Also it is true that USC and Texas are going to be powerhouses (along with SCAR of course), but how long will it take them to jell. Our guys have great team chemistry which I think will work very well with how Geno coaches. It's going to be quite a year as things are shaping up now, and some past power houses, I'm thinking especially Stanford, are going to have some serious work to do. If El Alfy comes around quickly that will also be a factor for sure. All so exciting!

How many of the ones you think are better will we be playing in our OCS. We play ND, SCAR, USC...do we play Texas? So we'll know a lot by the tournament, right?

Man. 7 player freshmen class loaded with top shelf talent. And Juju. Now Kiki. Their bigs are also back. May take a minute for them to jell but yikes. Joining Big 10 they should be on national tv a lot.

Eventually the question will be asked “how much talent is too much talent?” Will a team loaded with talented incoming freshmen who may be bumped down in playing time they thought they might get create some chemistry issues? Will it result in mid-season transfers? Will future talent decide against going to a program that regularly brings portal players in? Will all the talent be willing to share minutes?
The same can be said for UConn. The team, on paper, is loaded. But with regard to playing time, that issue has not been an issue, largely due to injuries that forced players who likely would have seen major minutes to sit on the bench. This season, we hope, will be different. The insulation from the injuries allowing players to play 35 minutes a game will eventually be gone. Will we see more key talent enter the portal? I hope not.
While other teams “restock” from the portal, Geno has mostly invested in the players he has brought in as freshmen. He is selective in using the portal. But in the rapidly changing landscape created by NIL and the portal, how long will Geno be able to continue to focus on players recruited out of high school and stay competitive instead of portal shopping? My guess is the day he starts thinking he needs to rely on the portal to be competitive is the day he stops coaching. He loves developing relationships over four years of a players career. It is something players like Nika appreciate about him. They don’t feel like a commodity to be exchanged with other teams. Geno develops people, not just players. He won’t change that, and UConn won’t fire him. He has a job as long as he wants to keep coaching. I will cherish each season he coaches and watch his players blossom.

He has a different goals than " just" winning. But, he trained us to appreciate winning. I root for my teams to win. I am not arguing against him. Sorry, but I don't believe in TOO MUCH talent. Does Uconn need Chen ?

To me that list is all borderline with their high overlapping with the low end for UCONN. They should be top teams, though. SCar will be strong. But, not much better than those teams. If healthy, UCONN should be as good or better.

Stolen from Oklahomahoops.com Raegan Beers now follows Markisha Kastanin (Director of Player development) for OU WBB. I would like to assume its a lock that she will be coming to Oklahoma.

I realistically put Uconn at solid 5. sounds like you are assuming that Miles and Rori well be healthy. So you must be thinking Fudd, Griffin, Patterson, Ducharme and El ALfy will be as well. UConn went to the final four and lost only Nika and Aaliyah. They add Strong, Fudd, Griffin, Patterson, Ducharme, El Alfy, Ziebell and Cheli. You don't think they will be better? The teams you mentioned will be terrific. UConn will be better. On edit - I left off Chen. Not a small deal. If we go player by player, I think UConn has an advantage. Chen/KK/Cheli Bueckers/Shade/Ziebell Fudd/Ducharme/Samuels Griffin/Strong/Patterson Ice/El Alfy This is an unbelievable roster. No. 5? Nah.

Not saying this at all to challenge you. I'm actually curious about the larger question of social media following. If Beers is following this person, and we assign determinative meaning to it (it's a lock), why then hasn't she just announced her intention? The CIA used to Kremlin watch (analyzing where people were located on the annual May Day parade platform, etc.). Guess what? The smartest, most highly paid and best supported spooks in the entire world got most of it absolutely, completely, definitively wrong. When the Soviet Union fell, no one was more surprised than the CIA. Are we then supposed to assign meaning to when a 20 year old clicks "follow" to the point that it makes something a "lock"? We all do this to some degree (I certainly do), because, absent facts, we just make assumptions (like I couldn't imagine why Chen would want to come to UConn as opposed to one of the West Coast schools or, frankly, why Geno would want her: I was, as often, dead wrong).

Once the contract is signed by the former Oregon assistant to join OK, Beers will announce her commitment to the Sooners.
