Good. KK needs to be an option when we are struggling to guard. She played pretty well on Harmon. She is like Hidalgo, she will create a lot of steals if she gets minutes.

I hope he means it because the existing plan is not going to work.

I like this lineup which at least has the potential to succeed. It probably would not help us win now but we need something different for March:
Ice at the 5
Aaliyah at the 4, which is her natural position
Qadence at the 3, she has some size and can defend the 3. Maybe give us some outside shooting.
Paige at the 2 as shooting guard
KK at PG, penetrating and pushing the pace.
Real Decent subs in Aubrey, Ashlynn, Nika, maybe Caroline and eventually Ayanna

Love it tbf, a smart person changes their mind when presented with new evidence. Additionally, the loss of Azzi just changed the equation. Shooting is a problem now. My opinion? We still haven’t found the right mix. I am not sure the starting five has been the best lineup in a single game this season.

So all summer we duked it out on Aubrey vs. Nika. And now you want to bench both. Love it tbf, a smart person changes their mind when presented with new evidence. Additionally, the loss of Azzi just changed the equation. Shooting is a problem now. That's the famous John Maynard Keynes line: "When the facts change, I change my mind - what do you do, sir." Not disputing that. The smiley face was to convey the irony of the situation, though I think that if Aubrey were being as productive offensively as last year, no one would have suggested it. But Aubrey can't run without quick rebounding off the boards, and we don't have a true 5 (yet) who can give us those 10 ribbies/game so that Aubrey can do a quick release.

I thought about having Aubrey in the starting lineup and she is most likely to be our best 3. I just liked the idea of finding a way to get more 3 point shooting into this lineup by March and I don't mean 2-3 shots a game from a player. Qadence is capable of 20 shots a game and a lot of 3 point attempts. Some how, some way we need to develop the ability to knock down a volume of 3 pointers for this team to have any chance to beat the top teams like Stanford, UCLA, South Carolina.
We don't just shoot a relatively low percentage from 3. We need to double or triple our attempts. Who is going to do that on this team? Who can do that on this team? I'm not convinced at all that Qadence is the solution but I know others are not. I'm fine with playing Aubrey 25 minutes. With Ashlynn 25 minutes even. I'm not fine with players playing 38 minute and proving game after game that they are not the solution.

As crazy as it looks right now, I absolutely think we need to do the same thing with Ice, as bad as she has played. It's about who has the potential to produce in March. I don't think this team is going much beyond the round of 16 but if we are going to have any real chance to do it we need to do a radical retool.

I have lot of things I'd like to say, but, I'll go with this. I stand behind all of my criticism of the way the team was put together. Mainly the refusal to try and replace Dorka. And don't talk to me about Jana and how supposedly she was the savior even though she never played a game yet. I don't see how this team even with a healthy Azzi was going to FF. The fact is this is what Uconn is left with. I don't like Ice having to handle the ball in the high post. Aubrey is the same Aubrey regardless of what "we want her to be". She just does not give huskies any offense and is sometimes non -existent. After last night's game I would rather see a lineup of Paige, KK, Q, Aaliyah, and either Aubrey for rebounding or Ashlynn for an extra shooter. I know, I love Nika too, but she just doesn't fit with what the team needs. Last night she was torched . I immagine that Nika played off of Harmon to prevent her drives, but she gave her 3 ft. of space. That is not the Uconn defense we are use to. And then there are the turnovers. Last night I was disappointed with the intensity that the team came out with. I always blame the coach in any sport when the team is not mentally ready. Last night the team was not prepared!

I think the coaches got it wrong. And most of the fans got it wrong.
It wasn’t that Dorka became a better player in the pros. It was that we missed a lot of the impact that she had on the court. Her ability to spread the floor. Her passing ability from the top of the key and the elbow. Aaliyah had a nice game yesterday. But probably is not as good without Dorka complimenting her. Our defense is not as good without Dorka. Our rebounding is not as good without Dorka.
I know people claim el alfy was the Dorka replacement. But all I see from Geno is a guy that is reluctant to play the freshmen. I have a hard time believing that el alfy was going to start and play 30 minutes a night from game 1 through the season.

A problem with this team is Aaliyah having to play out of position. At least El Alfy could defend the 5. And probably serve as a functional 5 overall. Better than we have gotten so far. Plus we are extremely vulnerable to Aaliyah fouling out. It's a huge problem especially against teams with quality bigs who can score.

Even her father, when Geno recruited her, asked Geno not to make her play post too much. Of course, she would have helped greatly in the paint. But Ice will too. It certainly looks like Jana was ahead of Ice in development, but Jana was playing pretty easy competition this summer, so comparisons aren't easy. Ice will come along. Ayanna will give us some backup. We'll be good when we need to be.

I appreciate aubreyfan mentioning foul trouble for Aaliyah. Fortunately, that hasn’t really happened this season. I am not sure what we will do if it does happen. 😬

And then are fans who seem to lack a clue regarding “UConn/Basketball” but write “ass” usual to remind us ……….. they. It is actually mind numbing.

How did coach "refuse" to replace Dorka? Was he supposed to clone her or Or do you mean than Jana and Ice (who were BOTH supposed to play this year) weren't enough? Not to mention Ayanna will (we hope) be ready at come point..

Rebounding is a problem, right?
Lauren Gustin at BYU briefly entered the portal before returning to BYU. She is only 6’1”. But she is leading the country in rebounding. Could she have helped this team? I have never seen her play. I am literally just asking the question.
What about Sedona prince at TCU? I am beginning to think everything bad at Oregon is the responsibility of the coach. Maybe she could have helped? She is doing well at TCU.
I think there were options. Maybe not stars. But options. Right now we could use a serviceable forward. Even the Notre Dame bigs that aren’t great (Marshall and Watson)… I would love to have a player like that.

I don't think anyone really thought she'd be an important player. A great kid and a great media/NIL presence, yes. But slow and not previously well-coached. At the time, Geno had 14 players. Everyone thought Jana would play and Ayanna would be ready by November at the latest. We were all good then.
