They've suspended a lackey, but ... the knowledge he was chasing is absolutely worthless unless it was known by the coaches and used on a play by play basis. At a minimum: - A scout learns the signaling by attending a game of a future opponent ... and apparently recording the signals - That info has to get to someone else, because the first guy is scouting a future opponent. - Taught to the entire team? Nah. Too complicated. Just hoping the players remember their OWN signals. - So likely someone in the booth. - That person then has to watch the opponent during the MI game ... - and share what the opponent is calling ... - in time for the coordinator to make a play call optimized to counter the stolen signal ... before the play clock winds down - To be fast enough, someone had to plan in advance ... When they do "x", we'll do "y" ... for a bunch of situations - To do that, they'd have needed to synch the calls with a replay of the game so they will connect which signal means what Yikes. And there are a lot of smoking guns.... Emmert had no spine, but Charlie is going to have to take a pretty serious stand here. Michigan is the undefeated #2 team in the country and favored to make the BCS (FF). Will they have to vacate any wins? Will there be any real penalties? Will the investigation take longer than the season lasts? How long has this been going on? It's pretty intricate for something pulled together over beers between a couple of misguided underlings.
