Russian society has been corrupt FOREVER. They've had maybe about a year of good government in their entire history. Brothers killing their entire families for power. Catherine the great getting her husband the king locked up for life so she could rule. It's always been a disgusting political system and frankly, you almost have to be complicit with the system to get ahead in Russia. It's so hopeless that I can see why people just give up and make the best of their personal situations. And top athletes know the system as well as anyone. Svetlana was kept off the national team for a while and then it appears her party connections put her in charge of it ( something like that ). There but by the grace of God go all of us. I can't condone it still. I would emigrate ASAP. This^ What gets me is it isn't like Sveta didn't have other options, unlike so many of her countrymen. She's smart, accomplished & she got a good education at UConn. She'd be successful anywhere. Instead she chose to enter the world's second oldest profession- mistress to an older, wealthy married man.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Just using the word "thug" says a lot about your mindset. Who kills more innocents than the US?
Everyone in the west talks about the war as if it started the day Russia sent in troops when in fact it started in 2014 when a western-backed coalition of highly-bribed power-seekers siezed power in a coup and were immediately recognized by the west as the legitimate government and billions in western investments poured into the country. An civil war broke out almost immediately and led to war crime accusations against the junta running the country as they didn't hesitate to shell Eastern areas of the country while the Azov Brigade engaged in "ethnic cleansing" of the Russian-speaking half of the country. All the west is concerned with is cutting off trade routes and Chinesee access through Russia to European markets. It's called the "Belt and Road Initiative" and it makes the west's control of trade routes through their navies impotent.
As for thugs, if you are such a student of the history why not educate everyone about the Azov Brigade and their background as Waffen SS traitors in WWII and who ran the extermination camps in Eastern Europe?
What would the US reaction be if a China/Russia- backed coup in Mexico resulted in a mutual-defense treaty and China and Russia started shipping weapons to Mexico while they also built a series of bio-chemical production facilities along the US border? Oh yeah, they would also have troops massed on the US-Canadian border, like NATO's divisions along the Russian border. Our generals would murder any president who didn't invade.
Putin is corrupt? So? Think Trump, Biden, Bush, both Clintons. The list is long.
I'm far from an expert and yet I had to dig to discover the truth and yet you, an expert in the history of the area don't even know about the 2014 coup???

For anyone interested in US control of private media I offer this book www.amazon.com/Presstitutes-Embedded-Pay-CIA-Confession/dp/1615770178 It was written by an award-winning German main-stream journalist who found out he was dying and decided to write about how the CIA infiltrates western media. The book came out in German but it wasn't published in English for three years. I know because I ordered it in English and there were endless delays. I bought a German copy while an English translation was distributed for a short time in Canada and a few copies were selling used on Amazon for 1,200.00 per. I love my country and I hate my government.

The corporate media, meretricious intellectuals, the CIA and others, just as they did during the Invasion of Iraq 20 years ago, have sold the public this war in Ukraine. Yes, Putin invaded and he's a thorough thug, but the situation is much more complex than any talking head or dishonest intellectual will tell you. John Mearsheimer does a very good job of explaining the context and origins of the conflict. You won't see him on CNN, MSNBC, FOX or other corporate media outlets, but few intellectuals - if any - know more about the situation than he does: www.mearsheimer.com/www.britannica.com/biography/John-Mearsheimer

To get back on topic the Ukraine Ministry of Youth & Sport has placed Svetlana's name on the list of Russian & Belorussian athletes who openly support the war in Ukraine: mms.gov.ua/russian-and-belarusian-athletes-who-support-the-war-in-ukraine/basketball/svetlana-abrosimova"former Russian basketball player Svetlana Abrosimova has faced critcism for her participation in events aimed at justifying Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, including a charity basketball match..." My emotions can be summed up in 3 words: Disappointment.Disgust.Contempt. Another thing that disturbs me is the silence of the women's basketball media & CT sports media as well. Not one outlet picked up this story when it came out that I've been able to find. We're not talking about some bench warmer here, we're talking about a 3 time All American who was one of the most beloved players in the history of UConn women's basketball. I'd also love to know what Geno Auriemma & her former teammates think- they must have known about her relationship with Solovyov prior to it becoming public knowledge.

Well, she lives in a bell jar with constant Russian State propaganda, just as we're bombarded with our own State's stories?

Incidentally, the Daily Mail reported another Russian business person went out the window. Literally. A female bank vice-president. No idea why, but I doubt she wanted to follow the trend.

Russian elites still have access to the truth unlike ordinary Russians & this is especially true of propagandists like Solovyov who is close to Putin (although that may change soon). After all if you don't know the truth how can you turn it into propaganda?? Svetlana knows what is really going on, without a doubt.

Russia is a place with no real law. So society is a total cock up. Once you figure out there is no getting ahead honestly, you do what you must to advance.
