Why wasn't Ines in there to commit that foul and save Nika?

Insane that Lou had to commit that foul and foul out also. Ines should have been in there to commit it.

silly question, did we cover the spread?
One more player (Caroline, Azzi) and we would have won. But we almost did with what we have, and I'll take them any time.

It's a good measure of where we are. Playing the #1 team right to the end. Of course, adding what's sitting on the bench, and we would of smoked them. But if we can get Carolina or Azzi or both back, on any given day....
Proud of these guys!!!!

Another gutty performance by this outmanned team. But , it proves once again , you can never have too many players on the roster, especially when some you do have are incapable of helping. And I'm not speaking about the injured players.

UConn shot the ball well (51.9%) but got killed on the boards. SC with 25 offensive rebounds, UConn with 20 defensive rebounds. Not a good matchup for Dorka. She's just not strong enough. Still, with a healthy Fudd and/or Ducharme, UConn can win this game. I would still like an explanation as to why the refs didn't review the handoff play.

This game was winnable, but we need to box out better, rebound and we had too many turnovers. A close game such as this can be lost or won because of turnovers. South Carolina was able to take 13 more shots than UConn, primarily because they rebounded more and had less turnovers.
On offense, we need to have more movement and cutting and less stopping our dribble before we know where we're going with the pass. When you pull up your dribble without a concrete passing plan, you make it easier for a good defensive team to tie you up.
I loved Geno's T, but the announcers were clueless as to why he complained? I think - from my distant tv view - Geno was disgusted with how the SC players were holding and bumping Lou.
Dorka needs to score a bit more? She played hard, but we need some offense from her.
Wasn't it fabulous the way FOX rushed it over to God damn bowling after the game?

Wasn't it fabulous the way FOX rushed it over to God damn bowling after the game? Everything you said was spot-on, Ken. But this last line really made me smile! Go from high stress, fast paced basketball to slow-as-molasses, watching-paint-dry bowling was quite the dicotomy!
and I like to bowl, just not to watch.

I will say, if SC had decent outside shooting, they'd be scary. UConn basically dared 'em, the whole game, to take longer shots.

Wasn't it fabulous the way FOX rushed it over to God damn bowling after the game? what.a.game. It was a loss, yes, but a harder fought game could not have been done. SC face guarded Nika reducing her assist total to 2 (at last look, I haven't checked the box score since the last 5 min), and we had no answer for the talented Cardoza of SC although we did manage to foul her out...eventually. Aliyah Boston is the real deal and did her damage as the reigning POY. Nika and Lou fouled out, but those last fouls were done to stop the clock near the end of the game, rather than something that occurred during play, and Lou continues to struggle from long. UConn was playing with a huge foul totals and a very short bench, led for a while at the start, then during the second half went down as much as 10, but the final was only a deficit of 5. When I saw Cardoza and how talented she was, I knew we had no answer for her despite our talented bigs, and likely would not win this game, given our lack of available players and the afore mentioned. There was one (ok, more than one, but this one bothered me) thing that I didn't understand which was the SC inbounding "handoff" instead of throwing the ball in - I mean if they can do that, what's to stop opposing players from coming in and stealing in right out of the inbounding players hands? weird situation. And Geno got T'd up for multiple crimes including throwing a water bottle on the court and taking up residence outside the coaches box, but what pissed him up so badly is still a mystery to me. Maybe someone could enlighten me. I felt bad for the team yet I was proud for the gritty performance of the players and the passion with which they play. All of them, Dorka, Aaliyah, Aubrey, Nika, Lou, and Ayanna Patterson who got good minutes off the bench, and Inez and Amari who played foul cleanup should be proud for the effort they gave, as always. I am very proud of them. Go Huskies.
