What a great day to be at XL. I was sitting right behind Sirgrest’s Dad. He was such a great guy. Unfort there was a Uconn fan that alerted security that he’d wasn’t supposed to be sitting there, which was BS. We were all like that’s Mr Siegrest STFU LOL.
A few observations: So we finally saw what a game looks like when Lou is cold and being defended so aggressively. Great job on nova.
Nika and Olsen were tangling all half. Nika really is chippy. Olsen is kinda a smiles and easy going kid.
Geno was reaming out Nika on the floor at 1/2 time. It was weird to see them arguing like that.
There was no cell service at XL today. Very weird. Phone says SOS, I’ve never seen that before. I did get one text out and 1 or two posts but that was it.
I thought it was an amazing crowd for a big football day. It was weird not scoring coming out of 1/2. We were all like WTF lol.
It’s no secret I like this nova squad, I like DYLAN. This team is one perimeter scorer away from being a true top 15 team.
Bella was amazing today. One time coming out of a TO she didn’t even know she was suppose be out there. It was funny.
Great win when we were not firing on all cylinders. Gutty, gritty.
Awesome

Dalce bothering Aaliyah is the thing that happened that probably surprised me the most. Dalce is a good defensive player and she often had others to double team Edwards. Villanova is a quick, scrappy defensive team; and our fatigue made it a really tough game for us.

Maddy shot 9-23 for 25 points, had 8 rebounds and 1 turnover. Aaliyah shot 3-9 for 13 points, had 6 rebounds and 4 turnovers. Aaliyah finished stronger, but Maddy wins this head to head. Luckily, we had Aubrey to bail us out, both on offense and defense. Of course, Maddy had 7 days of rest before this game. Aaliyah helped carry the the team against Tenn the other day. In the presser Maddy made that "off week" sound like a disadvantage.

Off the court the Huskies seem like the daughters or granddaughters anyone would be proud to have. On the court, stone cold killers. Credit Geno for sticking with the starters even though they were gassed. That doesn't make sense. Except. Geno, like Wooden, believes that team cohesion is more important than trying to keep people fresh. In this case, the bench players are not the 6th, 7th and 8th players on the team. If everyone was healthy, they would be the 10th, 11th and 12th players on the team. Pretty big drop off unless you have no choice.

Cohesion is essential for the complex offenses and defenses UConn runs. Even one person who doesn't recognize a situation throws off everyone. Ayanna is getting a lot better at that, and so is Amari. But they both have a ways to go. In fact, UConn played some of its best ball at the very end of the game. They sucked it up and did what they had to when they had to.

There are some UConn fans on Twitter that think the refs were poor in this game. I have been pushing back on that argument. I don’t think that is true at all. I think it was a pretty well officiated game. Did they refs miss some calls? Sure. But they missed both ways and they mostly let the players play. And fortunately, no one fouled out.

I agree, and I think Geno would, too. This was the way Geno thinks it should be called, when there's obvious contact that interferes with the player doing what she intends to do.

The officiating was consistent. It didn’t change like it did in the Tennessee game.

The talent we have on the bench could be the core of one of the best teams ever. From all reports, Ice was showing real promise to be in the regular rotation this season when she went down. Paige and Azzi are both NPoY players. I believe Caroline is a future AA, and may have reached that height this season if things had gone differently for her since her arrival. Everyone thought that the hip would be okay with a bit of rest. She was playing great last season before the first concussion.... Was getting back to that level this year before a repeat. Imagine if the efforts to regain ground already won had been focused on taking the next step ... and the next???

It's all true about the talent on the bench, but good heavens - we need to be so appreciative of what this team has accomplished to date. OMG - they have earned every bit of praise and definitely their scholarships! Warriors, every one of them!
