I thought we were going to lose with about six minutes remaining. But I think our defense on Maddy must have been the difference. I am not sure she scored again after that mark. Her last points were 8:08. Olson scored every Nova point after that. But Maddy played better than either Aaliyah or Dorka for most of the game.

Lou had her worst game as a Husky. 2-13 with 4 turnovers. She banked a whole lot of heroic credit this year and just withdrew a little interest. She'll turn it around.

The WiFi at XL sucks, especially with sell out or near sell outs. I was able to connect just once. I will read the game thread when I get home.
I almost had to call for a whhelchair before we finally scored a free throw with less than four minutes in the third. Might have to go soak my feet.

I think we will be in trouble if Lou struggles. I think we really rely on her to be a threat from the perimeter. Teams can just pack the paint if she is misfiring. We were lucky Dorka hit a couple today.

Just a couple of points and I don't think she had a rebound. When Aubrey was playing freely (without a lot of fouls), she handled her. She was unstoppable in the 3rd Q and that was her only effective quarter.

Great win under tiring and difficult conditions. Way to gut it out, LADIES

I would say Olsen was their best player today. And Aubrey was our best player.

the difference in this game was TEAM. Villanova had two players in double figures and doing 80% of everything. UCONN had 3 players in double digits and one with 9, and everyone was contributing. Somehow UCONN manages to play 5 on 7 (bench) and still come out with a win.
While the assist numbers are Down from usual, everyone did what they could. Who's to say that Lou's defender wouldn't have done better if she wasn't so focused on denying Lou?
UCONN players are just amazing.

Wow. I didn't think it would be the nail biter it was. Lou proved she is human after all. The crazy minutes the starters are playing maybe caught up a bit today. 3 40s, a 36 and a 38. This time Aubrey and Dorka were champs. I don't know what this says about SC but I'm not counting this group out. Put them all on massage tables and bed rest!

Luckily, we had Aubrey to bail us out, both on offense and defense.

Does not sound like she is that close to me. But Geno didn't say she is out for the season or anything. So, that's a plus.

Aaliyah helped carry the the team against Tenn the other day.

One thing that contributed to our fatigue probably was the postponed game. We were supposed to have more days off before that Tennessee game. Also, we shuffled a Seton Hall game around. The schedule was a lot more compressed overall as a result.

Also, Villanova typically plays their bench players much more than Geno does. Maddy played all 40 minutes this game, but she was well rested.

In her postgame radio interview CD said that Vill had a week to prepare and UConn had a day. Villanova is well coached and knows UConn well. They were able to neutralize Edwards and Senechal and still lost. UConn overcame. They played great in the clutch. Juhasz and Muhl hit HUGE 3's late. Vill. is No 8 in the RPI stats. www.realtimerpi.com/college_Women_basketball_rpi.html

Dalce bothering Aaliyah is the thing that happened that probably surprised me the most.

Geno said the team held it together for the first quarter but fatigue was a factor for the rest of the game. Dorka said they dug deep to gut it out in the fourth quarter.

Just woke up from the craziest nightmare. Get this. I dreamt that we played Villanova today and the team looked exhausted both physically and mentally for most of the game. Nova completely shutdown our fast break and Aaliyah and Lou shot a combined 5-22, Nika only had 3 assists and had to play 40 minutes (again) along with Dorka and Aaliyah. We went like 7 minutes into the second half before scoring. Meanwhile Siegrist and Olsen combined for 44 for Nova. Craziest part of the dream is that the Huskies won anyway. Had to be a dream, right. Those guys just do not give up.

In the 2nd period I told my TV that hopefully UConn was saving enough energy to be strong in the 4th period. I think Muhl had a mind-meld with her team and gave them some of hers'. The fire returned in the 4th, even though the scoring stayed cold. The eight days rest for Vill may have had something to do with Siegrist starting 2-12. What I saw against Tenn and Vill was that UConn finds and exploits mismatches well. One of the UConn starters always has a mismatch, either being taller or faster or a much better shot. Against Tenn UConn beat No 21 over and over during the game. That's what makes for a successful predator, spotting the enemy weak points and attacking.

I am betting that this was part of the VN game plan. I am also going to bet that she is feeling shitty (oops - I mean lousy) about the way her shots did not fall. Shooters shoot. UConn is loaded and ready to shout Louuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu after every bucket. This was one game. Look out Providence and SC.
