I am not totally a statistics guy, but I found this interesting.
At times, I thought Caroline looked a bit like a freshman on the defensive end last season. But I also remember she was occasionally an asset defensively on the perimeter. Her length bothered some of the opposing teams and led to a lot of deflections and steals. I remember her especially being a menace in the Georgetown game.
Curious to see what you guys think?

Great post, rukia! thanks.
I know what you mean. At times I, too, thought she looked a little out of it. But she is also an extremely instinctive player and got a lot of swatted balls and rebounds. She plays "in her flow" and the great thing is that the fear and newness is now over, and she's free to play her game within that flow. She'll be a great one!

I agree that her defense was underrated, and I would like to know the details of these stats

The interesting thing is I suspect the stats are team stats ... she had her glorious moments, but also showed her inexperience occasionally. My recollection is that she was "sneaky-good" at messing up a play ... in the passing lanes... or helping on someone else's mark. Do rebounds count in this advanced stat? Gabby could shut someone down. Kia just made everything hard and wore you out. Both are different from Nika, who makes you look dumb by taking the ball and your lunch money. Meanwhile, Caroline is just there where the pass should go... or where you want to get. Almost like Clouseau seems to bumble into the criminals way, except it isn't an accident.

Yeah, I think you bring up a good point. I think Uconn had the #2 overall defense in women’s basketball last year. So it is possible a lot of players on the team rate highly defensively.
