that's all I have to say about that. wait. that never happened (assuming the New Testament is accurate--which is another lecture entirely). Jesus, post utero, rode a donkey into Jerusalem, as that was prophesied in Zechariah 9.9. And it is merely a myth (not in the NT) that Mary, with Jesus in utero, road on a donkey into Bethlehem. And that is exactly my pedantic quota for one night. Thank you!

My wife and I have attended lots of those "other lecture entirely" courses - via "The Great Courses" and directly, via sermon and in-church classes when she was working at a church (office manager, before her illness). Just fascinating stuff. We once went in a religious book store to pick up a book by the late Episcopal Bishop John Spong (a friend of one of our pastors) and they looked at us like they needed to do an exorcism.

Jayzus, Mary and Joseph is a common enough exclamation....adding the donkey just gives it more pizzazz.....history and truth (such as it is in this case) be damned....

Random exclamations of frustration and or dumbfoundness at something seen OR READ somewhere. It's no big deal. It was meant to be funny......

It was funny. Besides I think it was accurate. I remember seeing actual photographs of Joseph leading Mary on a donkey when I was in a Catholic grammar school. She was riding side saddle.
True story - Sixty or more years ago I was tucked in bed listening to my 14 transistor AM radio. The only station that I could get that night was WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia. Mostly bluegrass (which I like) and a little country (meh). One of the commercials offered "genuine autographed pictures of Jesus Christ."
BTW I too grew up a mackeral snapper only of the French persuasion. The Irish didn't have a lock on those expressions. The only one I didn't hear regularly was the popsical stick. However, unlike today I never heard an F bomb or an MF or any C words. Look how far we have progressed.

Sometimes the most obvious things confuse me. Way too simplistic. When Tom Terrific went to TB, he joined an uber-talented team that needed leadership and a QB. His receiving core there was vastly better than all but a year or two in NE. Bruce Arians is renowned as one of the great offensive minds in football history. In short, he selected a destination very well and it worked. Brady is the GOAT, but that doesn't make everyone else associated with the team average. That logic simply doesn't work. Is Geno somehow less great because of Stewie? Along with the other coordinators, coaches, and players that were involved, Bill and Tom made each other greater. Each one enabled growth in the other. Each was outstanding enough to overcome flaws in the other, too. It was a match made in ... on ... a donkey in the middle east a couple of thousand years ago...

There is a medieval song about the donkey, sung on Jan. 1 and other days too. Endless variations and many many performances. First surfaces in the late 12th century.
Orientis partibus adventavit asinus, pulcher et fortissimus, Sarcinis aptissimus.
Hez, Sir Asnes, hez!
An English Translation:
From the East the donkey came, Stout and strong as twenty men; Ears like wings and eyes like flame, Striding into Bethlehem. Heh! Sir Ass, oh heh!
Faster than the deer he leapt, With his burden on his back; Though all other creatures slept, Still the ass kept on his track. Heh! Sir Ass, oh heh!
Still he draws his heavy load, Fed on barley and rough hay; Pulling on along the road -- Donkey, pull our sins away! Heh! Sir Ass, oh heh!
Wrap him now in cloth of gold; All rejoice who see him pass; Mirth inhabit young and old On this feast day of the ass. Heh! Sir Ass, oh heh!
