Confused....didn't Brender lose twice? Poll says she is 6-0. Also USF didn't get any credit for 2 big wins last week. Strange.

Tough to figure some of these this early. Baylor is going to be good, but fell to Maryland in a close game. Now the bears are a few slots above the turtles. Iowa missed a few games and only lost a single spot. Things will shake out from the top down, as the season goes along.

Iowa State won three games and lost a spot, while Stanford lost a game and moved up three. A bit of a head scratcher.

I think the voters were very generous to Maryland.
The first five opponents were a cupcake fest; a combined record of 10 and 18 and only Villanova weighing in at Massey ranked 99 were not triple digit ranked opponents.
That means there season today consisted of five warm-up games, not a single one of which presented a serious challenge to a team that deserves to be ranked in the top 25. The very best whin of those five opponents was the win by James Madison over number 146 Virginia.
That means the serious part of their season consist of three games, one of which qualifies as a win (by a scant three points) and the other two are not just losses but blowout losses. That's what passes for the eighth best team in the country? Massey ranks them at 13 which itself seems a little generous but is a little more reasonable than 8.
I almost (emphasis on almost) feel sorry for Tennessee who scheduled today is right sixth best in the country and they are 6 - 0. Even with those last three teams Maryland strength of schedule is number 51. Why have they been rewarded?

Then the BIG10!!!

Some good points have been made. The poll follows no logical plan. In general I have concluded that as long as a team wins, even against #100+ teams, they don't move down and move up as the teams ahead lose games, even if those losses are against top 5 teams. Your preseason ranking is like an entitlement. Why? Because it's the same voters every week. Does anyone expect them to admit that they totally blew it with MD? Not on your life.
One thing that held up last season was the inability of any team but UConn to handle the pressure of being No 1. Didn't SCar get it one week then immediately lost a game? I think that also may have happened to Stanford.
Bottom line is that the AP is trying to promote the sport and their writers have no compunction against inventing controversy where there is none. Who will care who was No.1 on Nov. 29 a year from now?

I focused on the Top 25 poll, including the reaction from VOLNATION.
