After today's loss, there is a legitimate question of whether Close can motivate her team to a reasonable season. And if she can't, after ten years of relatively mediocre play, will she even still be in Westwood next year to welcome those star recruits? Sure, she will, because there's no one obvious to replace her. But the negativity around the program will spread....Kiki may well be in the portal as soon as it opens and playing her sophomore year at Stanford.

UCLA is a good school; not too far from the Whiskey A Go Go and the beach, but for their basketball program's 2 fans, it's a perfect day for banana fish..........

Just read this somewhere and have seen it before, Close does a great job turning 4 and 5 star recruits into 3 star players. The smartest thing Close did for herself was to somehow endear herself to the Wooden family. However, Coach Wooden's daughter, Nan, just passed away. Additionally UCLA hired a new AD, from BC, and all indications are that he is a go getter. Her grip on the job may not be as firm as it was. Although, and we've seen this far too often, mediocre women's coaches can last a long time if they don't rock the boat. Women's basketball will have arrived when it's coaches are held to the same performance levels the men's coaches are.
