Uconn starts 2nd Quarter : Buckets, ONO, Dorka, Williams and Azzi.
My eyes are telling me SC physical perimeter defense is making Uconn uncomfortable. 8:33 26-14 Uconn.
Cooke has 2 fouls, but must remain in the game. This is an achilles heel of SC.
At 7:57 Uconn lineup 28-15 : ONO, Edwards,Williams, E, and Azzi. So, why is Azzi guarding Cooke ? Cooke is all over Azzi.
@ 6:50 mark Line up is Buckets, Williams, Azzi, Edwards, Dorka. Cooke contiues to score on open looks, as Williams doesn't guard her either. All of Uconn's offense is 25 ft. fom the basket, even when they are successful. From here we see Huskies offense slowly deteriorate. Again offense is always 25 ft. from basket. Cooke gets shots off at will. A couple of bad passes , Henderson is not guarded by E and it's 36- 33 Halftime.
My problem ? Cooke has 3 fouls and Uconn never makes a concerted attempt to attack her, why ? Husky defense is soft everywhere compared to SC ! Uconn played decent for half of 2nd quarter in my opinion.

Towards the end of the quarter, UConn became less in the moment and SC began to gain ground; nearly catching UConn at the half? Evina a bad turnover @ 7:30 and Christyn not getting out on 3 point shooter right after that? A minute later, she starts making a cut to the basket and stops midway there, missing the pass for a turnover? I have no idea what she was doing, and likely she didn't as well? The best thing about this quarter was that we had a small lead at halftime and it wasn't as bad as the 3rd or 4th quarter!! The bottom line is that Paige Bueckers is a superb basketball player, but she can't carry the entire team without some reliable and consistant help!! If Paige had the help Stewie had as a freshman and sophomore, she'd have some NCAA Titles as well!! Need to get Azzi going on all cylinders and Dorka as well!! Nika is in la la land this season and she's afraid of shooting / offense? Until she snaps out of it, she'll be virtually no help? Aubrey has been injured and we really could use her toughness and athleticism to give our toothless defense some real choppers!!! We have 9 weeks to prepare for SC part 2 @ SC!!!!

It may be that the price we pay in not having Nika starting is not having her playing well when she does get it. Different players react differently. It may be that Aaliyah is the opposite: maybe she needs to come off the bench; maybe she needs to see the rhythm of the game first. Early season is for figuring this stuff out.

I agree about not taking advantage of Cooke's vulnerability. As far as UConn's offense being 25' from the basket, I leave a link to the shot chart of the game which does not support you. www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/playbyplay/_/gameId/401381679

All of the ball handling and passing is being started 25 ft from the basket. That is different from shot selection position on the chart.
