This was really great! Phil, do you think that the women's game looks vastly different from the men's in this regard. Is it that the great strengths we are seeing in the top echelons of the women's game has not yet trickled down? Or would there be lots of inferior men's scores too this time of year with concomitant degrees of boring. I don't have a clue as I don't follow the men's game. But I was just wondering after reading your great report.

Or would there be lots of inferior men's scores too this time of year with concomitant degrees of boring. I don't have a clue as I don't follow the men's game. But I was just wondering after reading your great report. Intriguing question. I have some thoughts, but want to run some numbers to see if they pan out. I am looking forward to seeing that. My sense is that the men's game has finer gradations between tiers, and more tiers. So the group behind the 25 ranked teams is "less behind" the top five than on the Women's side. We don't see 16s beating regional favorites, but those games can be somewhat competitive. Less so on the Women's side, one wildly underrated Harvard vs an injury-depleted top seed aside. Feels like the 300 level teams are satisfied to be beaten by the 150's in the men's game. They don't schedule NC favorites as often. Money may be a big reason. When UCONN famously played in Albany, I remember hearing that single game was equal to multiple seasons of normal revenue. Unfortunately, only a precious few women's teams can generate a big payday. So, South Eastern Coastal Regional Tech will eagerly lose to Brenda or Kim by a hundred. I doubt Calipari or Coach K or Jay Wright or Gonzaga or ... would be willing to take such an embarrassing game. Someone in the media should shame the coaches who schedule those contests ... like we do. Grin
