I often think about how our visiting teams think about our fan base, the way we pack arenas and how overwhelming it can be for them. So far, our attendance today (almost 10K) far out numbers ANY other team for any game so far. Some (actually most) could only hope to have this many fans at at game.
It was a joy to be there, a joy to have fabulous seats, and just take in the atmosphere. Not to mention that hearing the smack of the Beuckers block was just insane. We are the BEST fans in the country. Glad to be back in person!

Stanford is especially puzzling. Somewhere on my bookshelf, although I can’t find it now, I have a book about the Stanford women’s basketball fan club. I think it’s called the fast-break club. I made friends with the Stanford fan at one Final Four a few years ago, not one involving Stanford, I think it was a fan supporting Cal. I later decided to take a trip to visit Stanford and managed to visit during a rare UConn loss, when that ended a streak, but while I was there my friend introduced me to the author of the book. The point being that there fan base was so strong they had a very active fan club, active enough to be the subject of a book. Any such organization needs to worry about aging of its key organizers and this was no exception. They still get fans but their fan club doesn’t seem to be as well-organized if at all and that shows up in the attendance numbers. Stanford’s home opener drew 2696 fans. Even if you make the argument that Morgan State isn’t a big draw, we had 8000 for an exhibition game. And even if your excuse week competition, the next game is against ranked Texas. The attendant soared to 3681. Simply put that’s pathetic.

And yet, the majority of programs would kill for those 3000.
Arizona had 6000+ at their first game (CSUN) I think, I'm going tonight (Texas Southern) and maybe Friday (Marist). On one hand they are raising the Final Four banner, OTH the fan base is sophisticated enough to know this isn't expected to be highly competitive. We shall see.
