Last season the Huskies attempted 565 and made 201 for a .356 pct. So in Geno's offensive scheme with this group, how many 3pt. attempts does he want to see by design ?

He has stated in the past that he'd like "around a third" of the points to come from three. I expect he'll nudge that upward a smidge if this year's gang can hit at a high percentage, but not change it that much.

Last year Huskies took just under 19 3 pt. attempts per game. Are you suggesting somewhere in the area of 25 ? At 40% that would be 30 pts /gm.

In addition to providing 50% more points than a made 2 point shot, a few 3 pointers made will often force the opponent's defensive perimeter further out; thus making it less congested by the basket! Just like in football; if you can establish a running game, defensive backs won't be able to 'cheat' as much and they'll need to respect the line of scrimmage. I'm certain Geno has certain balances in offensive production he'd like to see, but different opponents might require slight changes in strategy. Read and react......what is the defense giving you and what is the best shot available?

The rebounds tend to be "longer" too. Without any stats to back this up, it's my impression that missed 3's tend to ricochet over the defender more often, returning to the offensive team.

Over many seasons I always check on the percentage of total shots that were 3's. It varies between 30-33%. I expect Ark to pack the paint and "force" UConn to hit 3's. I hope to see Bueckers Fudd and Ducharme in the game together against an Ark zone.

Of course taking into account the team being played. There have been times in the past where the Huskies have seemed to take the first open 3 available. Arkansas threw up 43 today, over half their shots (75) which is excessive in my opinion , but normal for them. Last season Huskies took 62 shots / gm, 18 3's. I'm thinking maybe 20 this season. I'd really like to see certain players ( Buckets, E, and Azzi ) get to the line.

Paige is our best 3 point shot (besides possibly Azzi and Caroline--see that, Rocky!). But she also passed up a lot of 3s, both to pass to others and to take that terrific 18 footer off the dribble.

With the loss of Coach Quentin Hillsman, the 3 point shot will likely go into a mild recession during the first months of this season; but there will be growth in the springtime according to Coach Chauncy Gardner ............................ Naturally, the 'garden' he's alluding to is Madison Square Garden and 3 point bricks thrown up...............................
