Referenced article: Opening Day SummaryMy quibbles: "Sixteen Top 25 teams were in action on opening day. No. 5 NC State was the only ranked team whose perfect season came to an end, losing 66-57 to No. 1 South Carolina." In whose book is 0-0 a perfect season???"And legend Gary Blair opened his final season with a win as Texas A&M improved to 1-0." Again, does 0-0 count as ANYTHING?It then goes into their analysts evaluation. But the first few paragraphs just make statements that are, dare I say it, idiotic?

It's in the decline of the expression in the English language. Had the intern being paid $6/hr to create potted prose instead written: "whose hopes of a perfect season came to an end...." it would have been logical and fine. But we don't write precisely any more, if you know what I mean.

It is not just journalism, standard business English is on it's last legs. If you saw some of the correspondence I get at work, or even worse, the resumes....sigh.

What's even more amazing is the hilarious fact the the FOUR STOOGES @ ESPN take credit for the article: "Our panel -- ESPN's Katie Barnes, Charlie Creme and Mechelle Voepel, and ESPN analyst Debbie Antonelli -- break down what we learned from the opening day of the season and what we're keeping an eye on the rest of the way."You can't fix stupid!!!

The killer for me isn't how bad those bits are ... it is how little people care that what they read is trash. Don't even get started on broken idioms ... Mute point ... just because the writer doesn't know the actual word. Sigh. The Harry Potter phenomenon ... sure the story was interesting and such, but those things are available in a lot of other choices. It was how well JK wrote that made them a colossal hit. The first three are stellar. the final ones are good, but it is obvious that the burning desire to be read was already satiated more words. less said. Fewer times you think ... I like that turn of phrase or that sentence really carried a meaning I would have missed with just a Google Translate of the same exact thing

Journalism is about dead. The media would much rather show a 15 second video. How many in depth articles are on ESPN these days? The idea is not to inform but to entertain. Besides, who is willing to watch an ad before reading an article? I have to watch a 30 second ad to see a 10 second replay of a touchdown. Times change. I'm trying not to fit the stereotype of an old man complaining about how things were better in the past.

I run into it more in news pieces where every once in a while I have to google what I should be able to read. Don't get me started on the Rutgers WBB home page - all big photos, although, thank goodness, they do go to actual articles.

I, too, prefer to read stories than watch them on video … But the typos drive me crazy (doesn’t anyone proofread anymore?!?!) 😜
And don’t get me started with using an apostrophe to make words plural. Horror’s !!!!! 🙀
