Ok Ashlyn and Olivia, that clears some roster space. UCLA? Really?

yeah, I'm perplexed by this decision also. Like someone said, perhaps the lights and magic of LA was thrown at her during recruiting. Promises of grandeur. Geno promises nothing, and with his cast of characters, she probably didn't see much playing time. Bad move on her part. If she was gonna go for CA, she should've picked Stanford. Wonder if Dad is shaking his head..

Remember that Azzi was down to UCLA & UConn. Sorry to see another talented player disappear behind the PAC12Net curtain.

Kind of a slap at Stanford, no?

It could even be a big frog - small pond thing. At Stanford/USC/UConn she might have been just another tadpole.

Oh, she would have emerged out the Paige-Azzi pond as a big frog, but it would have taken a while. At UCLA, she will probably be a starter by the end of her freshman year.

I can’t believe all the knocking of Rice for choosing UCLA.
Academically, It’s the no. 1 rated public school. Just behind Duke of all the colleges.
They have a dynamic coach in Cori Close. Not that successful but she is dynamic personality. She coached the U-19 team in the World Cup.
I believe Rice has LA ties as well.
Good for her and UCLA. Beat Stanford!!

Really glad she didn't pick Stanford! Really sad not to have her in Storrs, but we can't get everybody. She is really really good in my view. So I knew there wasn't much hope, but I didn't give up til the last second.

I'm sure. But, UCLA isn't as "open" as Stanford is. UCLA also has Londynn Jones (top 10 PG) and Paris Clark (top 40 G) coming in this class. Also they have Dominique Onu (Darius) PG who came in early last year and played a bit. And they will have Charisma Osborne for at least 1 more year at guard.
She may end up starting anyway, but there is some competition there.

Thanks for this terrific analysis. To my mind, their coach has always been the problem. There are folks on the sidelines that you feel in your gut are good enough to make for a competitive program, but just are not smart enough or mentally agile enough or energetic enough or enough of a true leader, or whatever, to take all that talent and mold it into the best possible team. Why Geno and Tara today reign supreme on that score. Kim also. Hate to say it, but Muffett was really good at that, too. Not completely sure about Dawn. Liking the little I've seen of Adia at AZ, and thinking Courtney Banghart might be the next great thing.

OK, still no confirmation, but let's assume it's true. Here is the REAL winner. Not only because Kiki did NOT go to a competitive team with an excellent coach, but we win on the media against the competitors. Uncertain about Stanford.

Uncertain about Stanford. Stanford is weird that way. It's actually a "jock school" (or so say my contemptuous faculty friends at Berkeley). But it doesn't draw well. Harbaugh hated coaching there (okay, he hates coaching everywhere) because his successful football team couldn't put kids in the stands. Maybe there are just so many championship programs at Stanford that everyone's blaise. Or maybe they're all too busy earning their first billion launching start-ups before they graduate. Don't know. But "The Farm" has always been a weird place.

It's not just start, but the Big Fish I figure. 19-20 home attendance 3021 6th in the pac-12 stats.pac-12.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/teams/ucla. Figuring there are not many feminist sports buff in LA.

I don't know if men's sports draws much better. Stanford football doesn't draw, and I saw a lot of empty seats in this year's Dodgers-Giants playoffs.

If she wants to play in front of 2000 people good for her. UCLA Women's Gymnastics draws several times that # for meets, oh well. If she want's to be ignored she certainly went to the right place.

If Queen of the PAC-12 is what she wants, who are we to judge? We're the basketball capital of the world, so we're good.

No knock on her choice from me. I was just surprised. Nothing wrong with her going someplace where she wants to create her own legacy. I don’t follow recruiting very closely, but Kiki just never felt like she was going to pick UConn.
Out cupboard is far from empty. We can’t get all the great ones. But we get enough!
