Last season, there were 3 players who played more than 30 minutes per game. Paige averaged 36.1 minutes per game for her 29 games. (She missed 1 game due to injury.) Christyn (34.5) and Evina (30.6) also passed the 30 minutes per game threshold. So I checked old stats and figured out that 16 players have passed 30+ minutes per game in the last 5 years. Here are the top 15:
1. Paige 36.1 (20-21 season) 2. Christyn 35.6 (19-20 season) 3. Crystal 35.4 (19-20 season) 4. Crystal 34.9 (18-19 season) 5. Christyn 34.5 (20-21 season)
6. Megan 34.0 (19-20 season) 7. Naphessa 33.4 (18-19 season) 8. Katie Lou 33.1 (18-19 season) 9. Kia Nurse 33.1 (17-18 season) 10. Christyn 32.0 (18-19 season)
11. Katie Lou 31.8 (16-17 season) 12. Megan 31.3 (18-19 season) 13. Saniya Chong 30.9 (16-17 season) 14. Evina 30.6 (20-21 season) 15. Kia Nurse 30.3 (16-17 season)
Conclusions - Paige set the record last season for playing time. (no surprise) Christyn appears three times on this list. The depth of the bench determines how much the stars play. This season, probably only Paige hits the 33+ minute level. Notice no "bigs" on the list.

Great, David! Bet you're right about this year's playing time being spread more evenly.
Christyn's playing time indicates that, for Geno at least, she's contributing in many ways we don't obviously see.

Christyn is a mystery to me... clearly Geno sees better than we fans... but the improvement is not in her stats... 1. Shooting % - 49.9% as a freshman, 45.7% as a soph and up only a bit to 47.9% last season. 2. 3 point shooting - 36.7% as a frosh, 33.3% next, then 34.3% last year. 3. Free throw shooting - 74% as a frosh, then 74.4% and last year 69%. 4. Rebounds - 122 as a rookie, then 158 and last year 124. 5. Assists- Started out at 86, then 72 as a soph, then 64 last year. I can't explain it using stats...

I can't explain it using stats... Thanks so much, David! I can think of 3 reasons for her playing time: 1. Simplest: there's no better alternative available (this year, there might be!) 2. Her defense. At least for the latter part of last season, she was the shut-down defender on the perimeter and did an extremely good job at it. 3. The coaches might believe that Christyn does worse after she's on the bench. Some players lose concentration and need more playing time to regain efficiency. Perhaps it's overall better for her to play more in a single groove than play less and worse because of "start-up" time getting back into her groove.

I think she is amazingly talented but that she gets "into her head" too much and that really rattles her. They can't all be full of piss and vinegar like Ms. Buckets.
