A few items from NCAA bylaws relative to practice and related activities: 1. Official practices can begin 42 days before the first game - but only five days per week. A few non-practice activities are allowable before then (see #'s 2 and 3 below), but most normal practice activities are not allowed at all (see #4). 2. "Team conditioning or physical-fitness activities supervised by coaching staff members may be conducted on or off court but shall not begin prior to the beginning of the institution's academic year."3. "Outside of the playing season, from the institution's first day of classes of the academic year, only a student-athlete's participation in required weight training, conditioning and skill-related instruction shall be permitted. A student-athlete's participation in such activity shall be limited to a maximum of eight hours per week with not more than four hours per week spent on skill-related workouts." 4. "Prior to the start of on-court preseason basketball practice (i.e. the practices that begin 42 days before the first game), members of the institution's coaching staff may not be involved with one or more team members at any location in any of the following activities: (a) Setting up offensive or defensive alignments; (b) Chalk talks; (c) Discussions of game strategy; (d) Reviewing game films or videotapes; (e) Activities using basketball equipment; or (f) Observing student-athletes in any basketball activities even if such activities are not arranged by the institution's coach." (Note: certain activities enumerated in #2 and #3 are permissible.) Yes, I stole this too...

So ... How long before we're convinced Azzi is going to be great?
With Paige, it was pretty clear in game one that she was the best player on the floor. Those who said Geno would never start a frosh from Game one gleefully capitulated the point and we continued to be amazed all season. ... but there weren't as many other top options last year.
It is entirely unfair to use Paige's freshman campaign as a barometer, but is it possible that lightning strikes twice in Storrs? I'm absolutely willing and eager to have the Wonder Twins being terrible for the game starting in early November. So bad, you can't look away - even if you're an Irish or Gamecock fan.
I'm taking the under, though. I think Fudd will be exceptional, maybe even better than I expected Paige to be last year at this time, but I think Paige's rookie season was one for the ages. It will not be surpassed until after our memories fade and a new generation thinks <new kid> is "even better than..." Maya or Paige or Stewie or ...

I still think Paige, Nika and Azzi will fill the guard spots (1 & 2). Paige and Nika start, Azzi comes in and plays with Paige at point. Then, Nika coms back in and plays point with Azzi... 30 total minutes for PAige, 25 each for Azzi and Nika... (30 + 25 + 25 = 80)

(30 + 25 + 25 = 80) They are good enough for sure but there are 2 seniors who play 1-3 and Geno has always made sure that seniors get minutes. They are auditioning for the pros and that's why a lot of players come to UConn. There are 120 minutes at 1-3. If we consider that Griffin will get some time at the 3 & 4 then I can't see any guard getting more than 25 and often less. I also see more players resting injuries that they would play through with a short bench. The seniors will start unless they piss off Geno in practice. And I think UConn's back court will be much more aggressive on defense now that foul trouble is not an issue. Of course this will vary from game to game depending on the opponent.

IMO, Christyn has played as a 3 and Evina as a 4....they will share time w/ other 3s and 4s.... I really think Geno will want either Azzi or Paige on the floor 100% or until the game is decided.... but you are right it is crowded and the defense can get aggressive....

Christyn is almost exclusively a SG, and as a senior and defensive key, will find significant minutes. Paige played the bulk of her minutes at 1 and 3 last season, specifically to let CW play to her strengths. Evina also played mostly 1 and 3 early, then after Anna's injury shifted more away from the 1 and to the 4, freeing Nika to play the point. 2. Evina probably gets released from playing PF, with Liv, Aaliyah, and Dorka as mainstays inside and Aubrey fighting for some minutes in there as well. But that would mean we need minutes for the other senior, Westbrook, from the Guard/Wing allotment. 3. Paige and Evina have already shown that they can play the wing. I suspect so can Azzi. Caroline, too. Saylor will need to squeeze her minutes from the 3, 2 spots as well. That's 4.5 expected starters (Paige, Christyn, Evina, and Azzi or Nika) for three starting spots, plus some top notch remaining talent. But maybe they'll strive for an OT or two every game, to create more opportunities. So following your arrangement, The two "starting" groups are NM, CW, PB and other times PB, AF, EW, perhaps. Those are strong lineups, but the minutes will likely be fewer than you're projecting. There will also be downward pressure if there are more mop up and audition minutes
