Thirteen of them were won with coaches who came out of Philadelphia basketball. If this was horse racing Phil-breds would be especially desirable.

Thirteen of them were won with coaches who came out of Philadelphia basketball. If this was horse racing Phil-breds would be especially desirable. And the key to the Philly connection, besides sharp elbows in the face, is the immortal, transcendent, incredibly wonderful and brilliant Dr. Jack Ramsay and his amazingly overachieving St. Joe's Hawks. As a kid, I lived in the Palestra, and nothing gave me the goosebumps so much as when the Hawk led the team out on the court. Home court was almost unfair, as we were right on top of the court, and we gave the visiting team a Philly-polite welcome.
