So, Who next? Would jump at the chance (and use it as a recruiting weapon): Kim, Brenda, Jeff, Cori Have USA resume: Cheryl Reeve, Doug, Jeff, Kara, Cori, Tara, Jen, Dan Hughes New blood: Vic, Kelley, Mike Neighbors, Courtney Banghart, Adia How much will past participation matter? With Carol Callan also stepping away, will they even keep the same structure? Will the new model be a W coach instead of WCBB? That may be difficult contractually. Will there be preference for Gender or Race? Will they look for someone who will take the role for a long time rather than once? I would put Cheryl first on my list if she's willing. Kara is right up there, if she steps away from 3x3.

Cheryl Reeve is the natural choice and has Dawn's endorsement...

+ on Cheryl Reeve, but I'm such a Kara fan-boy. OTOH, in all honesty, she hasn't yet proved herself as a great coach. I'm sure Jeff would do anything to get it, as you say, swash, as a recruiting weapon. Courtney Banghart is someone to watch, definitely. I think Tara's already done it, right? And probably the wrong end of the career for her.

I am guessing Cheryl Reeve as HC, with Kara Lawson as an assistant. If she proves herself a great head coach at the college level, I can see her as head coach for the 2028 Olympics, or 2032.

Reminder that this was Reeve's second Olympics as an assistant, so yes, I really think it will be her.
They had made a switch to (sort of) pro coaches with Van and Anne Donovan (although she wasn't employed at the time) and Dawn was really a "no-brainer" having also served as an assistant and her long connection. It was hiring Geno and Coach K on the men's side that made it look like they were going to go the college route, but I expect primarily WNBA coaches going forward. I suspect if Dawn had wanted to stay, she might have been allowed.
You cannot discount the fact that pro ball and international ball is substantially different (in style) than college ball. Driven, as Pat Coyle once said, by the fact that all 5 players on the court (even the back-ups) were "stars" at the collegiate level.
I wonder if Adia will be considered for an assistant's position, or if her work with the team was because of a relationship with Dawn.
