I am just pondering this question. She has such an incredible talent for it, and she is young enough... although missing the Olympics might just be a nail in that coffin of hope. Anyone have any thoughts?

She doesn't seem interested in interviews.

She's gone, as a player, Maybe coach kids someday...somehow she won't utterly abandon the game, it would seem. But we can be grateful we knew her when. Wasn't she something else!

As you can see from the photos, she is not working out anymore.

Let's respect her choices, even if we still want to see her play.

It would be an interesting study...athletes walking away at the height of their power. Lots of us walk away from things we might otherwise succeed in, but the athlete's time to shine is so short and usually unrecoverable. Jim Brown and Barry Sanders come quickest to my mind, but they were running backs taking a massive physical pounding. Maya did it for love: "If I give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing." (1 Corinthians 13)

Maya needs to do what’s in her heart and soul and if that’s not basketball then so be it. However your right too, it’s a shame she’s calling it quits in her prime and not using her God given basketball ability to it’s fullest. If we had that gift 99% of us would need to be ripped off the court. In the end she needs to be Maya and that means no more hoops. So be it.

Yeah, a lot of great players could be/are jerks sometimes. Maya? Never. She has always been a fabulous human being.

after reading an interview (recent) and knowing ESPN will be broadcasting a documentary about her next week I'm feeling as if my question and starting this thread was prophetic. (LOL) I sure do miss seeing her on the bball court. I hope the road she's on satisfies her.
If I had one-tenth of her talent... at anything!!!!!!!! aw, shucks.
