Is Geno trying to leverage his praise of Azzi to keep Paige hungry? He can't seem to annoy Paige on his own, so maybe he's trying to use her BFF.

Well, maybe she's just that good! I hope so, and that they make each other better. Are they both 2's or what? Which is a pure point?

But Geno always plays games within games. Paige started out as the point, moved to a 2 because Geno needed her scoring. She was the best shot on the team last year, yet she was passing to players who couldn't shoot as well as she. This year, if Geno can stand keeping Nika on the bench, Paige moves back to point, with Azzi the 2 guard. But Nika is a fantastic defender (way better than Paige "on the ball"; Paige is terrific "off the ball"). Having Nika and Christyn out there together really strengthens the perimeter defense. Can't count on Azzi to be a great defender, yet.....

I think Nika is the pure point on the team...

So many choices. No wonder Geno is so happy! I am too! And ever curious.

Well, maybe she's just that good! I hope so, and that they make each other better. Are they both 2's or what? Which is a pure point? Paige is a PG at heart. Azzi is a natural two. But either can play the other slot quite well and both can play on the wing as well. Christyn doesn't have as much positional flexibility. She is "always" a two. Also, Nika is locked at the one, so again, the more flexible Azzi and Paige will move around. E plays 1 through 3, and stepped in at the four often in their small lineups last season. That seems less necessary with the options available at the 4 and 5 slots this season. AG is a tricky one, because she is a natural 3 on defense, but small 4 on the other end. Most of our bigs (Liv, Aaliyah, Dorka) are naturally closer to fours than Centers (reserving judgement on Amari), but that should open things up inside for any of them. Piath may be the only true center.

Christyn was locked at the two for all of her minutes. Early in the season Paige and Evina traded back and forth from one to three around CW at SG. Paige did play some SG with Nika at point, but primarily only when C was riding the pine.

Just to follow up on the question of perimeter defense....
With the 3 point line moved back, defenses will be stretched further, both zone and esp. man-to-man. That means that a freshman like Azzi won't have even the same amount of help she would have had last year. It'll be an adjustment.
For me, the 2 most exciting combos are Aaliyah and Dorka in the transition game and Nika and Christyn playing shutdown on the ball in perimeter defense, which releases Paige to do her off the ball interceptions. Both these combos could be amazing and complementary.

The outside shooting of Paige, Azzi, Caroline, and Williams will keep teams from packing the Post! It is going to be a great season ending in UCONN'S 12th NC!

The early season is going to be a fascinating watch for us fans as things sort themselves out. Once they hit their season groove we should be watching some of the best Husky ball ever.

Isn't it amazing to realize that after all these years, we are coming into some kind of new peak...so many peaks...not too many valleys, and our valleys would be peaks for most teams!
