An article about some folks in CT Gov't waking up. www.courant.com/sports/college/hc-sp-uconn-athletics-ncaa-name-image-likeness-20210601-20210531-a7hz34mwkjatdpql764x3ioeie-story.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=UConn%20Alerts%20-%20Don%27t%20Miss&utm_content=6011622479922#nws=trueAnd Geno speaks: “Everyone’s under the impression that this NIL is definitely going to pass at the NCAA level, and it’s going to go into effect this summer,” UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma said. “But there’s a possibility that it may not. There are still people talking that they’re not comfortable with it. So as all these other states move forward, if the NCAA votes yes, then great, we’d have the same advantages as every other state. But if the NCAA votes no, and we don’t have a law on the books, then we’re at a huge disadvantage for any of the athletes that go to UConn.” And Dave Benedict weighed in too. “While we certainly hope the NCAA and the membership approves the legislation of name, image and likeness, it’s an expansion of opportunity for student athletes that’s long overdue, but there’s not a guarantee,” UConn athletic director David Benedict said. “We all thought that legislation was going to pass in January, and it didn’t. It didn’t even get voted on. So as a university and an athletics program, we felt it was critical to work with Sen. Slap and others to get a state law in place so that if the NCAA does not approve legislation, we weren’t in a situation where our student athletes would be disadvantaged in any way. It just became clear to me and others that we didn’t want to put all our eggs in one basket.”

Can't read it, Rocky. So what I say may be redundant. But CT does have NIL legislation working its way gov't. But, FWIW (nothing!!), the NCAA will try to preempt the Supreme Court decision and Federal legislation on unionization. You edited yours, making my first comment indeed redundant.

bulkey the article quotes a Dem leader saying they are working with the Republicans to pass a bill within the week. Here is another Geno quote in which he points out some real advantages for the athletes in CT. “We do have a unique situation here,” Auriemma said. “The tremendous following we enjoy, the national exposure we have, the amount of times that UConn pops up in media and social media, our players do benefit from that. There are opportunities that would exist here that would be significantly greater than they would be at any other place, or certainly most places. And the fact that in women’s basketball, the players are there for four years, they get to build on their brand, their popularity, I think this is significant and a potential game-changer for women’s sports and UConn in particular.”

UConn is truly "America's Team" in WCBB, and this is a chance to really leverage that for recruiting.
