if that's possible.
Okako Adika scored 18 (of Butler's 35) and 14 (of Butler's 68) last year, and now is in the portal.
It will be interesting to see whether some conferences are substantially strengthened or weakened by the portal.
My gut (getting bigger this past year) is telling me the Big East might suffer. The best players of the lesser teams can go to schools that either improve their pro prospects or their lifestyle (such as going out West).

I think they'll do okay. Toughest on Marquette and DePaul, could be bountiful for the rest. I wish there were data available about how many went into the portal and then didn't get picked up or returned to the original school

Yeah, I hope for some serious investigative reporting on the whole situation.

The potential loss for UConn is this. UConn is still in a way-too-easy conference, though certainly a somewhat better one and way more convenient. But one of the things it can "practice" is shutting down the opponent's star player (such as Siegrist at Nova). If there are fewer true stars in the league, there will be fewer opportunities.

My dad grew up in Collegeville. Went to Ursinus where he was an All-American (closest to that in those days) in baseball. Offered a contract by the Yankees, but went into business instead. Minor Leagues in the Great Depression were, well, depressing.

A reasonable consideration. Another possibility would be that players like AEH find a home in the BEast. Quality coaching, media attention, play vs UCONN, look like a star. Andra wasn't getting any looks from the W while riding the pine in MSST.

Not so sure about Butler. I read or heard that they were missing players who only returned at the very end of the season. And I'll wager that there will be a slew of graduating D1 seniors floating around this off-season who are eager to delay having to earn a living by signing as a grad trans. The P-5 are the toughest conferences but how much tougher are they? To me a lot less tougher than the images they like to project. There's barely enough real talent to give each of the P-5 teams 2 players a year, and that's stretch. If you want to play a tough schedule you have to play top OOC teams, no matter which conference you are in. Recruits dream of being an AA and of playing in the final four. Any good program can offer a shot at the first but there isn't a school that can match UConn as far as the NCAA's. So the question to ask a recruit is "when someone asks where you are playing is it more prestigious to say "I'm playing in the (SEC, ACC, B1G, B12, PAC12)!!! or to say "I'm going to UConn!!!" And if players get to sell their likenesses and monetize their social media followers which school gives them the most national exposure? Is that maybe why UConn has signed such an amazing array of talent in 2020, 2021 & 2022? The WNBA has changed the view for elite recruits (1-10). College is no longer the pinnacle of the sport for women. Young girls want to play professionally. If you dream of being a physician you want to got to say, John's Hopkins. If you want to go into law and politics in California you go to Stanford. If you want to play professional basketball the top school is UConn.
