Admission of Guilt: I went to TOB earlier today to see who they were thinking would be the new Assist. Coach. Someone with a great sense of humor posted the below.
I'm still thinking it's Morgan.
"OK, before I even start typing, this is meant as semi-humorous, so the kevlar stays in the closet. Suppose you want an excellent assistant for holding down the position until the eventual HC to comes in (Shea or whoever). Maybe someone for 4 years or so. OK, here I go, what about Jim Calhoun? Consider the following:
1. He's had his fun at St. Joe's. He bleeds blue (I think he swears blue). 2. I understand he is still on the payroll at UCONN (a notoriously cheap state) 3. Is there someone with better name recognition for recruiting? HA! 4. Perhaps the Geno / Jim dust up is slightly overblown, I think they are both bigger than that pettiness (maybe not). 5. He can hold the assistant position down until a new HC is needed, he probably does not want to be the HC. 6. CD won't have to restrain Geno during a game (yes, less frequently in recent years) Jim can break Geno in 2. 7. He might not meet the P5 requirement, but so what. He's a person of color (I believe white is a color, white is all the colors in fact) and the desired diversity (I understand Jim identifies as a bad ass).
So if people a tossing out some far out people like MM, what about Jim?"
What do you think, Jim Calhoun helping out Geno??? Hilarious!

Very funny.
#4: I think that was very real at the time, but both have mellowed a lot since.

Well, no offense meant to you, HH, but I didn’t seen much humor in that.
It seemed a little forced to elicit a laugh or two. Fail.
Eh....maybe it’s just me.

Uh, imagine the portal flood if Jim was a coach. Surely that was a tongue-in-cheek posting.

On a more serious note, the job listing ends with this language: This job posting is scheduled to be removed at 11:55 PM Eastern time on April 20, 2021.
Will be interesting to see whether they make an announcement on Wed. the 21st.

Welcome back Morgan Valley................!! The Jim Calhoun humor was what it was. More significantly, folks on TOB are suddenly in an uproar about what a poor choice Morgan Valley would be. Insultingly rude, some of them, about the jobs she has held. I don't get it. She may or may not be the right choice for you guys, but regardless, the issue wouldn't be the reasons dragged out in that thread.

But typical of the know-it-alls on that site.

Thanks for this! Yet another reminder not to lurk around over there. Exciting, isn't it. Who do you pundits think it will be. We have our poll..how about some rationales?

The only 2 candidates I've heard of that qualify are Valley and T Williams and we don't even know if either applied.
My suspicion is that it's one of those 2 but there may be others. I think I read that applications are due by Tuesday so we know by the weekend.

The Planet TOB has a severe lack of consideration for others; particularly for some former and present UConn WCBB Players? Not all very good or great coaches were great players themselves! In fact, many phenomenal players were mediocre coaches! Morgan has quite a bit of successful coaching experience since graduating from UConn, she understands the UConn mentality and she's done very well coaching guards!! She would be a very good fit and I think that's who Geno & CD will hire! However; with that being said, TOB knows best!!! !!! Didn't they correctly predict the Dewey Presidency, the Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl win over New England and Mr Mojo Rising..............................................

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe Geno Auriemma won any national player of the year award during his playing days. In fact, I believe he was likely an okay player who evolved into an adequate coach.

Name a single MVP in any sport that has become a great coach. The closest I can come up with off the top is Isiah Thomas. Let's rule out "player-coach".

Bill Russell won an 2 NBA Championships in 1968 and 1969 as player coach. His overall success as a head coach, as with any coach, was dependent on the talent he had to work with. Not sure I'd classify him as a great head coach, but winning 2 NBA championships is nothing to sneeze at.
